Well, in all fairness, can you name a movie in, say, the last 30 years that
actually portrayed a myth accurately? The last 40 years? 50? I'm drawing a
blank. And let's keep the selection field arbitrarily limited to
English-language films, since that's the audience Disney targets.
Besides which, Disney's depictions certainly leave much to be desired, but
people don't seem to get so upset when the cartoons show animals talking. I
guess my point is that Disney is intended as entertainment, not as a literary
lesson. Would it be better if they did both? Probably, but that's not what
they're claiming to do, and no one can credibly assert otherwise.
