Again, thank you for taking the time to respond. I appreciate the effort,
but...
It was utterly useless. I don't care about venue (I only cited eBay because
that was a convenient place to look). In fact, they are usually but not always
on the high side on prices. A reasonable price is always in the eye of the
beholder, no matter how unreasonable that person is, I am aware, but that is
starting to play a semantic game about theory. It is the aggragate of buyers
that determines "reasonable" in practice.
Let's suppose that someone asks what's a reasonable price for a Redbeard
Runner (picked because I know most of the Pirate line). If I tell him whatever
he thinks is reasonable, I've told him nothing. I can make the logical jump
that he is trying to get an idea what it is currently selling for. Okay, that
I can do: $100 give or take $10 (good condition with box). As low as $80 if he
is patient. $120-$160 if he isn't. If he can find it under $80 in good
condition, he is getting quite a bargain. Now, he may look at the design of
the ship and say $80 is unreasonable to him because the design is so inferior
to the Black Sea Barracuda, even though the latter will probably be at least
$200, and most likely much higher. Or you may find me, who says "It's just a
bunch of Lego parts and I ain't paying triple the price". At the moment, that
is. The "whatever you and the seller think is reasonable" is a fine thing to
add as a qualifer at this point, BUT, everyone now has some basic information
to form opinions around.
See? Now he knows what the market is like.
I suppose this falls under marketplace theory, so to avoid that:
Does anyone know what is a reasonable price for the yellow castle? See above
if you are unsure what I am asking for.
:-)
