Re: we need some "pod" rivals

One word - "marketplace"! The market place was the center of the medevil town. Now we castle builders need to become merchantmen instead of army generals. A market stand is built onto a "plot" - say 15x15. The "plot" may either have 1 corner or no (...) (22 years ago, 18-Oct-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: we need some "pod" rivals

(...) I really like this idea. Not sure what you mean by "corner" though, do you mean the stand is a corner stand so that there are two sides of it open to the shoppers instead of just one? I would think 16x16 would be a more natural LEGO plot size. (...) (22 years ago, 18-Oct-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: we need some "pod" rivals

This idea is great! "I fully endorse it. Let's try it at once" (Nightmare before Christmas) (...) I would suggest not putting too many restrictions on building. Just call it a 16x16 plot with one or two street faces, and one back alley face. (...) (22 years ago, 18-Oct-02, to lugnet.castle)

Medevil Marketplace (A Common Castle Builders Project)

(...) Yes, the marketplace would be on a street or road. You can build your stand to be literally just a stand, or it can be a building multiple stories tall. The road idea means we can connect our market stands together when we would meet at (...) (22 years ago, 18-Oct-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Medevil Marketplace (A Common Castle Builders Project)

(...) One reminder since people didn't think about it with the castle town: Make sure your creation is entirely within the 16x16 area, except that it may hang over the street some. Frank (22 years ago, 18-Oct-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: we need some "pod" rivals

(...) Now this is what I was talkin about! Good ideas. I like this. What about city walls? What about the road? The street layout needs to be uniform too. Lots to think about, now we're talking. e. (...) (22 years ago, 19-Oct-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Medieval Marketplace (A Common Castle Builders Project)

I really like this idea for a common project. Of course, I am biased since it is already what I am doing. I use the 32x32 baseplate as the standard in my town so I am fine with the minimum of 16x16 as the standard for this project. It just means (...) (22 years ago, 19-Oct-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Medieval Marketplace (A Common Castle Builders Project)

<de-lurk> While I'm not taking part in the Moonbase project, I did read the terms that had been developed. About the only "firm" issues were the size and height of the airlocks, plus a minimum set-back for airlock support (so that a moonbuggy could (...) (22 years ago, 19-Oct-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Medieval Marketplace (A Common Castle Builders Project)

(...) I agree with this. We want to leave as many options open, and just restrict enough to allow the individual creations to be joined. (...) My only concern about this is that at the max offsets, the stall itself is only 10x12, which is prety (...) (22 years ago, 20-Oct-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Medieval Marketplace (A Common Castle Builders Project)

Sounds fine to me. We can always change it later if problems arise. It sounds flexible enough to start with. One thing we do need to address is city walls and street width. Say 16 studs for the street and same for walls with a 2 stud set back on the (...) (22 years ago, 20-Oct-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Medieval Marketplace (A Common Castle Builders Project)

(...) <snip> (...) Good points. I don't see a problem with maxing out your baseplate space. If these creations are brought together at a show, then yours could be placed back-to-back with someone with a 2 stud back offset. In my imagination, the (...) (22 years ago, 20-Oct-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Medieval Marketplace (A Common Castle Builders Project)

I worked out some stuff yesterday, trying different ideas and things. I think we should go with the marketplace. It is faster to build and the standards below do work for a "temporary type structure." After all the original idea was something that (...) (22 years ago, 20-Oct-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Medieval Marketplace (A Common Castle Builders Project)

I've been working on castle walls for a town that is completely modular. I'll tell you how I'm doing it and you can decide for yourselves if you want to adopt it, alter it, or throw it in the garbage. :) First I built Wall Segments on 16x32 plates. (...)   UPDATE: Medievil Marketplace (A Common Castle Builders Project)

(Sorry for replying to myself but didn't know where else to put this...) Hey, sorry for my weekend absense, I was camping, but it seems you all have really put some thought into this. I have begun to look at all of the ideas and see that all people (...) (22 years ago, 21-Oct-02, to lugnet.castle)

That sounds great. I'm wiped out from this last weekend so I will be brief. I would like to brainstorm but everyone seems to have covered the bases I can think of. This will be fun! Let us know what we can do! e. (22 years ago, 21-Oct-02, to lugnet.castle)
