Well, I've always used transparent-cyan for windows like in
Wave Master http://guide.lugnet.com/set/?q=6596_1&v=z
Indy Transport http://guide.lugnet.com/set/?q=6335_1&v=z
Is that correct?
I've never found any use for neither light-blue (9)
nor transparent-light-blue (41).
Is there a color table somewhere like this:
...
43 Transparent-cyan like windshield in 6335
44 Transparent-light-red like windows in 6898
...
where LDraw colors are related to *photos* of relevant bricks?
When I defined the colors for L3P back in 1998 there were only
the 16 LDraw colors.
Color 6 Brown was not particularly brown in LDraw, so I changed it.
Color 10 Light Green was only used as 32+10=42 Transparent-Light-Green,
so I made it yellow-green for e.g. BlackTron.
Color 11 Cyan was only used as 32+11=43 Transparent-Cyan,
so I made it cyan rather than bluish, http://guide.lugnet.com/set/?q=6596_1&v=z
Color 12 Light Red was only used as 32+12=44 Transparent-Light-Red,
so I made it orange rather than red, http://guide.lugnet.com/set/?q=6898_1&v=z
You can see the differences in this L3Lab generated table:
http://home16.inet.tele.dk/hassing/ldcolors.html
which I don't think I have ever remembered to publish.
Also try the three color schemes in L3Lab in the View menu.
(the current color scheme doesn't affect the POV generation...)
The 16 transparent colors were (are) rendered with the same RGB values
as the non-transparent colors, which was (is) a mistake. I sometimes had to
compromise a color to make it look good both non-transparent and transparent.
I have already prepared the software for different values for color X and 32+X.
BTW, defining the colors was a PITA to me, because I would much rather
spend time on programming than fiddling with color values. I also found it
difficult because colors depend a lot on the light setting, ambient light,
reflections etc.
So, if you guys can come up with good settings for all LDraw colors
(including the new ones) I'll be happy to put them into L3P.
/Lars
