I use L3Lab and I get the same conversion problem.
Also, speaking of colors, I noticed another anomaly that may or may not be
an L3Lab problem. I had a decorated element that used a color that was not
used anywhere else in the model (as a main color of some part or another)
and the .pov file that L3Lab generates (to render an close up fisheye view
thus chokes the render engine, you get an invalid MATERIAL error, I think it is)
(My usage is to embed that file as an .inc after stripping the object camera
lights at the bottom so I usually don't care about that, but it is nice to
do a test render on just the L3Lab output)

I dunno but I would bet L3P since it looks OK in MLCad and POVray just
renders what colors it is told to do.
Try playing with the color def in the generated .pov file...
