A long time ago, I started building little robots that were roughly minifig
size.  I built this particular robot at least 6 years ago, and I've always
loved it.  I recently decided to ldraw it and test out a new idea for
"instructions".  Here is the result- a short animation that shows you how to
put it together one piece at a time while it spins in front of you.

When the folder gets moderated, you will also be able to download various
sizes of desktop wallpapers.

I made other renders with more frames- and they looked great.  But the final
result was an unreasonably large file.  This one uses one frame per added
part (23 parts plus 3 extra frames at the end, at 375Kb).  Perhaps I'll
upload one of the 100+ frame animations at some point.

If you want to see some ancient pics of this robot, it appears in my Colony
Ship gallery that I posted to my site in late 1999:

(...) seemed to go a little fast on my machine to really see each step clear enough to build it. A manual frame by frame advance works better. What software did you use to create it? I'm aware that POVRay has an animation feature but haven't (...) (22 years ago, 31-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

(...) Nifty bot. "Their model 2M appears to simply be a 2H with a lingual filter that interprets "repair" and "attack" as the same word." Heh heh - sounds like something Intel would do :) Jeff J (22 years ago, 31-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

This a really high tech approach Tony. Took a little running back and forth in WMP, but it is a novel way to pickup the instructions. Funky little 'bot too...kinda retro. Cheers, -G (...) (22 years ago, 31-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

I'd just like to say that I REALLY like this guy. The instructions are neat, albeit fast, and the construction used is really cool. This is a neat lil' bot. -JHK (...) (22 years ago, 1-Feb-03, to lugnet.space)
