Off topic question Re: Clone DATs--any interest?

(...) Do people model parts that don't exist in the LEGO universe? i.e. Plates with studs on both top and bottom, or bricks otherwise shaped in ways that have no real-world analogs? Just curious - I've glued plates together to get exactly that (...) (25 years ago, 27-Nov-99, to lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw, lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands, lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Centering (was: I need help with the new tread links)

(...) Yes to both questions. If you are unsure about the centre of the part you are currently working on, you can temporarily switch to a different part, move it around, set the centre, and LEdit will remember this 'till the next time you reset the (...)   Re: Clone DATs--any interest?

(...) OK, here's an analogy... Hopefully this will illustrate the purist's point of view and why it's not arbitrary... You go into a restaurant and order big fat juicy third-pound burger with all the fixings, a side of french fries, and a big tall (...)   Re: Clone DATs--any interest?

(...) Which leads to another question. If you make a model with Lego bricks mixed with Byggis [1], how will the model be identified as such, and how will the individual clone pieces be identified as such? Obviously someone with a Lego-only (...) (25 years ago, 27-Nov-99, to lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw, lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands, lugnet.cad.dev)

Kevin Loch <kloch@opnsys.com> wrote in message news:FM32ur.BwF@lugnet.com... (...) I agree. Some parts--especially those with lots of rounded surfaces--can be hard to make out in LDraw. (...) That sounds like a good plan. There are several resources regarding parts creation, including the post from John and a post earlier last week from Chris Dee.   Re: Partsref is Moving to LUGNET

(...) Cool! (...) Is there any desire to have povray rendered images for each part? I still think that would be cool, even though the ldraw versions are more useful for some things. (...) Sometimes, transparent parts have decorative printing. And the LDraw library should be written so that modelers can use any part in any color, even if LEGO hasn't released that part/color combination yet. Decorations on transparent parts shows (...)   LDraw extended colors

The LDraw colors are 0-15, 32-47, 256-511 (and of course 16 and 24). Paul Gyugyi defined some more colors for LDLite, 17-23, 25, 57 and "Direct Colors" in the range 0x04000000-0x07FFFFFF.
