LDRAW - http://www.ldraw.org by James Jessiman is _the_ program which sets the
standard. This has a very large assortment of pieces. It's a bit tedious to
create models though. DOS, keyboard.

Once amazing, at least since it was the first in its area, but certainly
out of date now. Not easy to use at all, not WYSIWYG, no mouse support,
etc., etc.

MLCAD - http://www.user.xpoint.at/m.lachmann by Michael Lachmann uses the
LDRAW parts, so it has the same possibilities. Windows, mouse. Import, export
LDRAW format.

Not much experience with it. But I know from the discussions here that
it lacks some functionality that LeoCAD already has since the very
beginning.

LEOCAD - http://www.leocad.org by Leonardo Zide. Can use the LDRAW pieces,
plus has more of it's own. Windows, mouse. Import, export(?) LDRAW format.

The best choice in my opinion. It can read and write Ldraw format, and
it can also export POV files. It has a very nice rotating functionality,
either piece by piece, or any group of pieces, it has OpenGL support, it
has a minifig builder, It can create html building instructions, it
can... Anyway, it has the most functionality rich one around, and of
course user friendly. It can not help you creating parts by the way,
since it has no support for basic Ldraw commands used for creating
parts.

As Anderson already said, the best way to go is trying all of the
options..:-)
