Short cuts for turning 90 degrees around x or z would be great too.  (A
for 90 degree turn around y axis, S around x, D around z maybe?)

And use the shifted versions to go CCW would be great--shift-A goes -90
around Y, shift-S goes -90 around X, shift-D goes -90 around Z.

LDAO's Modeler allows A/shift-A, but not the others.

1) Steve: a few suggestions for the minifig modeler:
- allow colors other than 0-15.

The color-list is loaded from ldraw.ini.  Open c:\windows\ldraw.ini, search
for [Colors], and start adding lines.  The number before the equal sign is
the color-code, the second color is the RGB (in Microsoft style: Blue*65536
+ Green*256 + Red), the color-name goes after the comma.  If you don't want
to bother with the RGB, skip it:

47=,Clear
383=13421772,Chrome

- update 9326*.dat to 973*.dat

Check out minifig.ini, in the LDAO program directory.  Just replace the
outdated numbers with the new ones.  I'll update the LDAO source code.

- if possible, let me add headgear (usually in the same
position/orientation as the head, so it shouldn't be too hard to
implement[2]), most often parts 2446 and 2447

Yep, this needs doing.  Along with hand-equipment, neckwear, and footwear.

Also, the MFE needs to write out plain DAT files, without the LDLite
extensions.

Have you even opened output from the MFE into LEdit?  The result reminds me of
the movie Total Recall.
