I was looking at part 80 to see if it could be used in my bend thingie program and compared to my own measurements , I thought that you had to overlap the small segment of this part in order to have the correct length. now, when looking at the (...) (...) The segments should overlap slightly, yes. Take a look at the 78.DAT, and you will see that the cylinders overlap a bit. This is to avoid "holes" when the hose is "bent". Here's an example of a bent hose: (URL) now, when looking at the awesome (...) (24 years ago, 18-Dec-00, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

(...) from my measurements the thick part is 3LDU and the small part is 2 LDU. looking at 80.dat it looks like you have a length of 1.8 for the cilinder (which is probably more accurate), yet when placing 2 80's next to eachother (like in 78.dat) (...) (...) I don't know what the "correct" way to use the 80.DAT is. In 78.DAT they are put so that they overlap by 0.4LDU. Yes, they do overlap in 78.DAT. This makes the distance between the "thick parts" 3.6 - 0.4 = 3.2. The width of the notches is (...) (24 years ago, 18-Dec-00, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

(...) hmmm, it appears to be you are correct. with measuring a long piece I come to 3 LDU for the small part if I use 3 LDU for the notch. It just seemed strange to me that I couldn't intertwine the notches of 2 hoses yet the dat files show that (...) (24 years ago, 19-Dec-00, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)
