    Observatory —Jaco van der Molen
Hi all! Being a bit sick at the moment I found some time to take some pictures of my Observatory. See (URL) now: (URL) is also a rendered picture. Finally you can download the MPD file! PLMKWYT! Jaco (21 years ago, 7-Mar-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.models, lugnet.cad.ray, lugnet.space) !

        Re: Observatory —Mike Petrucelli
(...) Wow! I am surprised I am the first person to reply. That is awesome. Very nice use of bricks to make a dome. -Mike Petrucelli (21 years ago, 8-Mar-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.models, lugnet.cad.ray, lugnet.space)

        Re: Observatory —Manfred Moolhuysen
(...) Has your MOC been insipred by a large observatory, or by one of those small observatories run by a group of voluntary astonomers, or "volkssterrenwacht" as we call them in the Netherlands? In shape and scale it looks a bit like one of their (...) (21 years ago, 8-Mar-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.models, lugnet.cad.ray, lugnet.space)

(...) detail (...) Thanks! Pitty this is a somewhat dark picture. I am trying to build more detail in it right now. Also doing some revising on the telescope and the motor. Jaco (21 years ago, 9-Mar-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.models, lugnet.cad.ray, lugnet.space)

Re: Observatory —Jaco van der Molen
Inspiration was more of doing something with a dome using the sphere generator. It was part of Steendam at LEGOWORLD 2002! I am rebuilding it now, and adding more detail. Jaco "M.         Re: Observatory —John Henry Kruer
Wow! That is cool. It looks perfectly like an observatory, and the moving dome is just great. So much realism in that! Very cool. And the CAD files are nice, too. -JHK (...) (21 years ago, 9-Mar-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.models, lugnet.cad.ray, lugnet.space)

(...) moving (...) I am trying to give the motor more power (with a little help), for now it does not or barely move the top of the dome. Only if you do not tighten it to the telescope holder. Jaco (21 years ago, 9-Mar-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.models, lugnet.cad.ray, lugnet.space)

         Re: Observatory —Ross Crawford
(...) That motor you're using is the old-style technic motor thats not geared down, so it has much less torque - you may have more luck with a new-style one (URL) however that may rotate it too fast.          Re: Observatory —Jaco van der Molen
Unfortunenatly the only motors I own are these (I have 2) and an older 4.5V one. Another LEGO friend is busy making me some gearing to give the motor more power. Since I am rebuilding an revising the whole model, expect it! Jaco "Ross Crawford" (...) (21 years ago, 10-Mar-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.models, lugnet.cad.ray, lugnet.space)

        Re: Observatory —Jeff Jardine
(...) That's terrific! What a great idea. In your revised version, do you plan on adding doors to the dome, and giving the telescope a greater range in declination? Jeff J (21 years ago, 13-Mar-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.models, lugnet.cad.ray, lugnet.space)
