I'm pretty sure there are instructions on how to set this up in the
README.TXT file in the ldglite distribution.

Ah!  I just knew I had read this somewhere, but I couildn't find it
even though I searched for a long time.  Thanks!

     1) Open an Explorer window (or any folder window).
     2) Select the "View->Folder Options" menu selection.
     3) Go to the "File Types" tab.

The problem is that I don't have this menu option in the Internet
Explorer 4.0 on my PC.  So I don't know how to insert this
information.

I believe you're supposed to do this with a "regular" explorer window,
NOT Internet Explorer.  Try "Start/Programs/Windows Explorer", or right
click on "My Computer" and select Explore.

I just tried it on Windows 2000 and I had to use "Tools->Folder Options"
to find the "File Types" tab.  And naturally the resulting dialog box looks
different from the one in Windows 98, hmmm.  I love the way M$ changes the
interface all the time.

It appears to me that this is registered in the file "iexplore.inf".
Could this be correct?  If so, would someone like to tell me what the
relevant lines from "iexplore.inf" should look like?  I only need the
lines that relate to LDraw, obviously.  That would be great!

I don't have an iexplore.inf, but I'm pretty sure there is something in the
registry for this.  A quick regedit turns up this:

@="ldlite Document"
"EditFlags"=dword:00000000
"AlwaysShowExt"=""
"BrowserFlags"=dword:00000008

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ldlite.Document\shell]
@=""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ldlite.Document\shell\open]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ldlite.Document\shell\open\command]
@="C:\\projects\\ldglite\\l3glite.exe -v3 -fh \"%1\""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\l3glite.exe]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\l3glite.exe\shell]
"FriendlyCache"="l3glite"
"FriendlyCacheCTime"=hex:40,6f,54,6b,b3,a4,bf,01
@="open"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\l3glite.exe\shell\open]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\l3glite.exe\shell\open\comman
d]
@="C:\\projects\\ldglite\\l3glite.exe \"%1\""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\cgi_auto_file]
@="Ldraw file"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\cgi_auto_file\shell]
@="open"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\cgi_auto_file\shell\open]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\cgi_auto_file\shell\open\command]
@="C:\\projects\\ldglite\\l3glite.exe \"%1\""

Good luck adding that by hand though.  :)  You'd have to substitute l3lab.exe
and it's path for l3glite.exe.

(...) Well, that certainly explains a lot! Thanks! I'm obviously not too familiar with windows yet. Fredrik (25 years ago, 18-Apr-00, to lugnet.cad)
