Hi gang,
Well, leave it to a demonstration at Brickworld to bring out bugs in your
program.  I always evoke the first rule of frisbee when I give demos:  Never say
anything more predictive than, "Watch this!".

I fixed the bugs I remember I saw at Brickworld, and added a new feature.
LPub 4.0.0.3's new features compared to LPub 4.0.0.1 include:

1.  Classic case of buffer exchange for exploded view assembly, LPub
automatically ignores parts added the second time. No more PLI BEGIN IGN/PLI
ENDor PART BEGIN IGN/PART END for exploded view steps.

2. In classic buffer exchange for exploded view assembly you no longer need to
GHOST the parts added between the store and step.  LPub applies buffer exchanges
to the LDraw files before being handed to the renderers.

3.  PLI's in callouts and step groups are automatically set to the width of the
CSI (if on top or bottom), or height (if on the side) for best packing.

4.  Bill of Materials support is back

5.  Resize/shape of PLI and BOM using click and drag with the mouse!

6.  When converting submodel to callout, LPub automatically adds arrows from the
callout, and automatically places the tip(s) in the center of where the called
out submodels are added to the step.

7.  Added support for front and back cover pages

8.  Added support for numbered pages without any assembly steps

9.  Add of arbitrary images to any page type

10.  I think I got centimeters working

11. Export pages to a sequence of PNG/JPG or BMP images

12. Fixed issues in print to PDF
  - the full page was not filled with background
  - the page number was sometimes off page
  - problems with centimeters

13. Modified how margins are applied to PLIs/BOMs
  - Only instance margin used to separate image from instance text
  - Only annotation margin used to separate image from annotation text
  - Only part margin used to separate image/text from the next image/text

14. Added beam length annotation (like axles)

15. In single step per page, LPub calculates the bounding box of the step
assembly image and callouts placed relative to it and places the whole assembly
where you tell it (centered on the page is typical).  This does create a
backwards compatibility with LPub 4.0.0.1, because previously provided OFFSETS
to manually perform this centering still apply, and stuff will be drawn in the
wrong place.  If you manually remove the OFFSET, LPub 4.0.0.3 will put things
where you want them.

16. With step groups on a page, LPub calculates the bounding box of the step
group and callouts placed relative to it and places the whole assembly where you
tell it (centered on the page is typical).  This does create a backwards
compatibility with LPub 4.0.0.1, because previously provided OFFSETS to manually
perform this centering still apply, and stuff will be drawn in the wrong place.
If you manually remove the OFFSET, LPub 4.0.0.3 will put things where you want
them.

17. In step groups, allow PLI and callouts placed to the left of the CSI to
share the column width of the widest PLI.

18. Step groups with PLI per step off, now properly calculate the PLI.

19. Recognition of "Unofficial Parts" added to an MPD (this is the recommended
method for distributing MPD files that depend on unofficial parts), as parts,
not submodels.

20. Open dialog now remembers the directory of the last successful open, and
starts there for a new Open request.

21. Efforts to reconcile image size differences between LDView and LDGlite when
provided with the same camera settings (e.g. scale)

22. Increased timeout for LDView and LDGLite renderings.

23. Bug where rotstep not on first step in step group affecting all steps in the
step group (as demonstrated at Brickworld 2009 :^) is fixed.

There are more, but I cannot remember them all at this point.

I consider LPub4_0_0_3 a beta test version.  It is a candidate for official LPub
4.1 (because I'm tired of saying 4_0_0_3 ;^)

Here it is:

As always, when reporting problems, where possible and appropriate, please
provide an example LDraw file, and the steps necessary to recreate the problem.
This dramatically increases the probability I will be able to recreate the
problem and fix it.  Any files you share with me in this process will be held in
the strictest confidence.

Enjoy!
Kevin

A few quick notes... (...) I searched some time how it could work... You have to insert or append a cover page and select this page to get the Add BOM option ungreyed (in edit menu). As a side note, if you add bom twice on the same page, weird (...) (15 years ago, 1-Jul-09, to lugnet.cad)

(...) Kevin, I'm using LPub 4.0.0.4 and I seem to be having this problem that was presumably fixed in 4.0.0.3. Is there something I need to do to get the background color to fill the pdf page? Right now I have my page setup to 11.0 by 8.5 (...) (15 years ago, 7-Sep-09, to lugnet.cad)
