    easy pattern creator? —Jan Folkersma
Hello, I just started creating my own parts. First thing I'm trying, is to create the brick 1x4 with white "TRANSPORT" pattern on it, as is used in set 335 of 1967. There already is a brick 1x6 with this pattern, so I thought easiest would be to (...) (21 years ago, 26-May-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: easy pattern creator? —Larry Pieniazek
(...) A more general answer is that there is a pattern creator, quad2dat... although the author seems to have stopped working on it and it has some annoying bugs, it's very useful. But in your specific situation you'd be starting over, so that's not (...) (21 years ago, 26-May-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: easy pattern creator? —Jan Folkersma
(...) I'll try and look into that one. For the moment I'm totaly happy with Carsten Schmitz's "BMP2LDRAW32" which I found yesterday on the LDDP homepage. This coverts images into ldraw readable .dat files. (...) Carsten's neat little proggie has the (...) (21 years ago, 27-May-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: easy pattern creator? —Steve Bliss
(...) One thing to keep in mind -- parts created with BMP2LDRAW32 (or any other bitmap-to-LDraw converter) are not really encouraged. They're very handy when you need a part quickly, but the quality of the pattern is usually not the best, and the (...) (21 years ago, 28-May-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: easy pattern creator? —Jan Folkersma
(...) Hejhej, we're talking about my first born here :) Please have a look: (URL) must be one of the best looking patterns ever. But then, you are right about the file size: it's about 92Kb....I thought this probably was a bit large. I think the (...) (21 years ago, 28-May-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: easy pattern creator? —Don Heyse
(...) Hey, is the source to BMP2LDRAW or BMP2LDRAW32 available? I know some really nifty edge tracking algorithms from way back when I used to do image processing that might come in handy here to remove the jaggies. Don (21 years ago, 28-May-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: easy pattern creator? —Carsten Schmitz
Hello Don, well. i am thinking of making it available inside the LDDP package/project. If i would make it open source would you like to participate and make it better? Play well Carsten (...) (21 years ago, 28-May-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: easy pattern creator? —Don Heyse
(...) Sure, I'd like to try and make it better, but I don't know if I can until I see the source. If it's delphi code I won't be able to build it, but I still may be able to contribute. Based on the output, it looks like bmp2ldraw32 already has most (...) (21 years ago, 28-May-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: easy pattern creator? —Don Heyse
(...) Alternativly this looks pretty neat, and goes way beyond my depreciated image processing/vectorizing skills. Maybe it could be useful. (URL) wonder what it would take to create an output-ldr.c file for it and rebuild it to dump .LDR files. (...) (21 years ago, 29-May-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: easy pattern creator? —Larry Pieniazek
(...) I think for quick and dirty patterns, this is a fine approach. It works best with patterns that are monochromatic, I think. For things like minifig torsos it may not work as well as sitting down and figuring out the polygons would. Plus, as (...) (21 years ago, 28-May-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: easy pattern creator? —Jan Folkersma
(...) Well, what can one say? You convinced me. Both your ratio and my urge to sometime create an 'official' brick. So, there I went, creating patterns by hand, byte by byte. Sure it was fun, but also took lots of concentration and time. All I did (...) (21 years ago, 27-Jun-03, to lugnet.cad)
