Hello Tim, I would like to bring to your attention that there is a a minor link error on the homepage (URL) the link to "LDraw.org Help Desk" is correct, the red arrow just in front of it still links to the "MLCAD Resources incorporate with (...) (...) Well, I'm not someone under an NDA, nor have I played on on TV, but... The simple answer is "Because LEGO Direct asked them to." and that's about it, really.
