Re: New Partsref is pure bliss

(...) Beige is whiter than the "tan" bricks (white bricks do turn "tan" in the sun though). Tan, before TLC started making it, was a brownish grey, wasn't it? I would like to call the brick colour "sand". (24 years ago, 3-Nov-00, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.general)

Re: New Partsref is pure bliss

(...) Another reason to call it 'tan' is because that's a lot easier to spell! :-) -- David Schilling (24 years ago, 3-Nov-00, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.general)

Re: How do I speed things up ?

It sure would ! I was thinking along these lines a few days ago and I tried a small experiment. I manually edited copies of the .dat files for the basic bricks that my model uses and removed all of the "extraneous" quads and studs so that each part (...)   Re: repost: chains1.dat

(...) And one quadrant is still "squirrely". Try a zoom of about 6000 in l3lab, select the menu option "View/Random colors" and then spin the chain link around a few times. You'll see that all the polys are nice and parallel in 3 quadrants, but all (...) (24 years ago, 3-Nov-00, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

Re: How do I speed things up ?

(...) Yes, it would help. How about having an option to draw all prior steps in wireframe mode? Or have a meta-statement to turn wireframe off and on? Either of those might be easier to use than flagging specific parts. Steve (24 years ago, 3-Nov-00, to lugnet.cad.mlcad)

Re: Is it appropriate to post large models here?

(...) That sounds suspiciously like a challenge. How often is 'often'? 500 KB is in the neighborhood of a 7500 piece model. I currently can't do better than 108 KB, and that would be a fairly gratuitous posting (ie, it's been published elsewhere). (...) (24 years ago, 3-Nov-00, to lugnet.cad)

Re: How do I speed things up ?

Beside the fact that the next release will be faster than 1.99R1 :-) I have another idea: What if would be possible to mark certain parts for outline or wire-frame drawing? Would that be of any help? Michael (24 years ago, 3-Nov-00, to lugnet.cad.mlcad)

Re: How do I speed things up ?

One thing you could also do is to use the 'hide' feature. When you select parts and activate 'hide" from the menu or tool-bar (the light's) the part will not be drawn anymore until you make it visible again from the menu or tool-bar (show, show (...) (24 years ago, 3-Nov-00, to lugnet.cad.mlcad)

  Re: Baroque Church Facade

(...) FWIW, I find that changing "0.707107" to "0.707" (i.e., three digits of precision) is sufficiently precise, and helps avoid line-wrap. Franklin (24 years ago, 3-Nov-00, to lugnet.cad.dat.models)

Re: Is it appropriate to post large models here?

(...) Nah, don't worry about it with small files. Your "Baroque Church Facade" post was only 47,684 bytes (about 46.5 KB) -- still pretty small. You'd have to be posting 500 KB files often in order to cause a problem. --Todd [xfut -> lugnet.cad] (24 years ago, 3-Nov-00, to lugnet.cad.dat.models, lugnet.cad)

Is it appropriate to post large models here?

I've posted two decent sized .dat models here recently (St Marks and the Baroque Church). Is this appropriate? Is there any danger of using up too much disk space?
