I’ll do a MOCpage when the site’s back up.

This MOC was heavily inspired by (but not a faithful replica of) a spider tank featured in the anime Ghost in the Shell--Stand Alone Complex. It’s seen in each opening sequence, and is featured in (I think) episode 2 of the series. Wheels are mounted in the feet to allow higher speeds on flat surfaces than you would get just by walking.

The Spider Tank represents a lot of firsts for me. It’s my first (posted) multi-ped mech, after drooling over Soren’s and Mladen’s for years. This is also my first blay MOC. What can I say, it’s the only solid color I had the Rescue Chopper canopy part in (well, that and the click joints...) Finally, it’s my first time using the click-rotating hinges (yeah, I build reeeeaally slow). The four “hips” have three axes of rotation, and each “knee” has two, which allows for some good range of motion (for one of my mechs anyway). I’m thinking about a good pose to submit for the mech pose contest.

Cross-posted to .space ‘cuz Lenny featured it in his highlight sidebar. Thanks Lenny!

Hope you all enjoy, lemme know if you have suggestions...

I can dig it. You’ve got nice set of smooth, sorta bulbous in places, shapes that works really well. The mech ends up looking just a little cute, but that’s OK. Getting the wheels in there and keeping it able to stand and pose is also very cool. I also think it’s a nice touch that you went with larger scale greebles since it’s a tank. In general, I don’t like being able to see the hinges showing through the armor on mechs and stuff, and you’ve done a pretty good job of concealing them, or bulking them up enough to look reasonable, instead of just leaving the lego hinge exposed.

(...) I think most of my stuff winds up having a little "cute" content in it. I'd credit (blame?) the anime influence. BTW, I have to confess the wheels don't turn freely, so the model doesn't roll (they're wrapped around 1x1 cylinders). (20 years ago, 30-Apr-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)
