Nope, I used these:
I used two for each gun. Very stiff. I also used this combo on the MWP.

Wow, a third post by LFB, this is truly a day to remember.

I just went downstairs and tried this (I assume your method puts the handle
of the bullhorn in the open end of the Technic peg after its through the
brick) and it seems to work very, very well indeed. Is that how you did it?
Ive been logicking out various bits and subassemblies for my ongoing major
project, and one of the biggest problems has been supporting that kind of
weight in the limited space allowed while still having some kind of
flexibility for gearing it. This may allow me to do just that, even more
effectively than rotary click joints which have their limits...youre my
hero du jour, sir.

Yep, thats how it works. Glad you find it useful.

Are there other ways of stiffening up an elevating cannon-type assembly?
These things will be 500g apiece and very long (they are what you think they
are), so robustness is critical.

Well, I learned a weaker method of stiffening from Ben Vaughan, he used a
instead of the loudhailer for his mechas
hip joints.
But, of course, you asked for a stronger technique. I cant really think of one
off the top of my head now, but I would suggest you keep experimenting with
thicker poles/tubing/antennas to achieve an even stiffer joint.
Some of those brick pegs are even thicker though, and do not accept regular
antenna. You could however try to force them in... Of course, you would
seriously damage your bricks. :-(
Its funny how some of my building techniques and ideas correlate with your
battleship construction. I find that very amusing.
