Nope, I used these:
I used two for each gun. Very stiff. I also used this combo on the MWP.

One issue I have with the design is the number of primary colors, though. I
think either the red or the blue needs to go, and be replaced with more tan.
It just looks too chaotic IMHO.

I see your point. However, to tell you the truth, I’m sorta sick of drab colour
schemes.
My last two mobile platforms were drab, and I just wanted to break away from
that.
Plus, I think blue is kinda of a cool, ceremonial, royal type of colour. You can
just picture this puppy returning to a field full of ceremonially dressed
soldiers and marching bands. Ahhh... Only in my imagination. :-)
That said, I’ll try to work with tan more in the future.

I just went downstairs and tried this (I assume your method puts the "handle" of the bullhorn in the open end of the Technic peg after it's through the brick) and it seems to work very, very well indeed.
