the day i first discovered the LMHoF i was inspired to even greater heights in Mecha engineering and design. i used it as a resource, studying the ways of the masters, how they crafted their designs, how they constructed joint articulations, cockpits, hands, weapons, etc. i would visit each of the builders’ sites, save it in my favorites, and wait with anticipation for them to update...wonder breathlessly at what new and amazing design would appear. then, it just stopped. since then my inspiration comes from visiting some of the individual sites that still exist as well as this forum and brickshelf. i’ve hoped and prayed that a day would come when the LMHoF would rise again and i would click the link and would be greeted by a new and amazing splash page filled with new links and new Mecha Builders...

until now, i have had NO IDEA as to what qualified someone into the LMHoF. i thought that maybe it was an invite sort of thing, but based off of what criteria? what is considered “innovative design”? how often are new Mecha Builders inducted? etc.

that being said, i think it may be prudent to have a solid list of the various criteria that the Founders use to judge a Mecha Builder worthy of the LMHoF. this will give those that aspire to be in the Hall a system of general guidelines and a sense that there is SOMETHING to work towards. all of this should be outlined and determined by the Founders, but once outlined and determined, should be posted clearly for public knowledge.

it may also be worthwhile to allow only a certain number of new inductees per week/month/year/whatever. another idea may be to show the “nominees”, only one nominee will be inducted to the Hall, but at LEAST those that weren’t get their fair share of exposure and a certain sense of pride and accomplishment. i think the idea of having articles/interviews/news/info is great! having LMHoF inductees post instructions or tips on Mecha design and construction would be really awesome.

finally, it would be nice to have a section that gives praise to new builders, those that aren’t inductees, but are seen as possessing a latent and budding talent as Mecha Builders. if you’re developing a site dedicated to Mecha Building, that highlights the best and brightest Mecha Builders, it is good to also tip your hat to those who aspire to the level at which the great masters have reached. it is important to show the roots, to acknowledge that even the great masters GlaGla,Sophie, and the rest began with just a handful of bricks in their inventories and didn’t just become great masters overnight. this would only unify those who love and love to build mecha, and make them feel like they are part of a community instead of some insignificant speck in the face of an elitist group of builders.

i really look forward to the rebirth of the LMHoF! there is and was a great amount of potential...

if you build it, they will come!

lol

(URL) When the LMHoF was created back in August 2001, the Founders wanted to present a fan created resource and archive honoring Mecha design. At the time, building Lego Mecha designs was in it's infancy. So when you wanted to see the few designs (...) (21 years ago, 13-May-04, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)
