Another good chapter. Comments: 4:4-5 - Did you spring for the hair for this, or did you already have it? Good use of a rare part to set off a distinctive figure (though it might have been better for Sarah if you had had it back in Genesis as she shows up in many stories).

I’ve had a couple of these white hair pieces for a little while now, but indeed was waiting for an appropriate time to use them. I didn’t spring for them though, they were a gift to The Brick Testament. No, not from the LEGO company. :) I might have used the white hair for Sarah if I’d had it back then, but alas.

4:10 - I like the Burp mountain a lot for some reason.

Thanks. I thought it looked nicely foreboding as a backdrop for the gathered army.

4:14-15 - You know my feelings on the tubing arms. It is very cool how God stands out against the gray background with his white scimitar/robes/hair.

Yes, I tried to get this shot to work with a standard arm for God, but it lacked a little punch. I still agree that there’s got to be a better way to have an arm out to one side and still have the suggestion of an elbow, but I haven’t found it (or seen it) yet.

4:15 - the composition of this image is very nice with the camera angle and focusing

Thanks. This is an angle I haven’t used very much so far--not that the camera is turned sideways, but that the camera is placed lower than “ground level” (ie. below the shelf I photograph stuff on) and is looking upward toward the sky (you may have noticed that you never see any ceilings in The Brick Testament’s buildings). I’m finding that it can sometimes be very effective.

4:21 - I like the look on this one as you can just see what she is thinking.

I was wondering, for people who don’t already know this story, at what exact point it becomes clear what’s going to happen. Is it when Sisera is told be Jael “Do not be afraid”, is that foreshadowing enough? Or is it not until she picks up the tent peg and hammer in this shot? Or are some readers still suprised by the next couple of photos?

4:21,5:25 - Ouch! That poor ABS! You’ve gotten very violent with your figs lately, with those severed toes previously and now a ruined head. I’m glad it’s a common enough head.

I don’t think it should necessarily be taken an indicator of an increasing willingness on my part to put knife to brick. I’ve had these stories in mind for almost two years now, and knew all along that I would need to match the brutality in these stories with a brutality toward a few choice bricks in order to achieve the effect I was going for. I just don’t trust that I could have retained the shocking nature of this passage without the similar shock of seeing an actual LEGO head split in two.

For 4:22, I had an alternate photo where you see a LEGO brain within the split-open head, but I didn’t think that quite worked as well.

Just to allay your fears of an increasing trend in violence toward ABS, looking ahead I can only think of one more story in which my plans will likely call for another such desecration of the brick.

Now you’ve got to make vignettes to go with your stories so I can feature them on VignetteBricks. :) Maybe one of 4:21 for this story.

That one really is calling out for a vignette. And it would be so easy for to modify it into vignette form. And yet... can only... bring self... to work on new Brick Testament stories... sorry!

:)

(...) Have you tried reinforcing it with a bent paperclip? I know you've used some non-lego solutions in the past (hey, you're not photographing it with a Vision Command camera) and it wouldn't even be visible. Also, I think (URL) is the best shot (...) (...) Yeah, I don't know what it says about me as a person, but I'm more upset at the sight of mutilated Lego than I am at the idea of someone getting killed violently in his sleep.
