  New MOC: Hummer

Does anyone have any suggestions for improvement before I take the complete photo shoot? I have a feeling that the wheels are half a stud to a stud too small, but I don't know which wheels to use instead: (URL) Lambrecht bram@cwru.edu (URL) (23 years ago, 23-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

  Re: New MOC: Hummer

(...) Very nice! I _believe_ there's a set of balloon tires that are slightly larger from a Technic set (maybe the ones in set 5283, at 43.2mm?). I was building a custom 4WD around the same scale, and those wheels seemed about right. I never (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

  Re: New MOC: Hummer

(...) Bram, great models. By coincidence another humvee popped up recently by Jay Cal who is doing some of the best LDraw models around. Take a look. Even if it doesn't give you ideas its great for comparison. (URL) (23 years ago, 23-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

  Re: New MOC: Hummer

Wow. Honestly I did not think that such a realistic looking Hummer could be made at that scale. The rounded bricks are a good match for the roof, and the doors are clever. The texture from the studs on the doors make them look more rugged, just like (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

  RE: New MOC: Hummer

(...) If they weren't balloon tires, they just might work. But they look silly since they are so wide, and are just a tiny bit too big. Anyway, I only have 1 or 2 of those wheels... Thanks anyway, --Bram Bram Lambrecht bram@cwru.edu (URL) (23 years ago, 23-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

  RE: New MOC: Hummer

(...) Thanks! (...) They're the same size, and lower profile. a 4x4 circle is almost exactly the right size...unfortunately, they don't look very good as wheels/tires, and they're too close in size to the tires I used for LEGO to have made tires (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

  RE: New MOC: Hummer

(...) Thanks! (...) Not really a coincidence :) We were chatting and Jay mentioned Hummers...after that we both decided to build one. (...) the difference in scale necessary to make the wheels look right... :/ --Bram Bram Lambrecht bram@cwru.edu (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

  Re: New MOC: Hummer

The wheels don't look too bad. I really like the doors. Does anyone else like Humvees better? I think that the full-cab look is just better looking. At the moment I'm working on a '78 Firebird in the same scale. lets hope I can pull it of 8) <<KM>> (23 years ago, 23-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

  RE: New MOC: Hummer

(...) I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I know that the Hummer comes in four commercial models (and that's about all I know about them): 2-door hardtop 4-door hardtop (My model) 4-door softop wagon What's the difference between a Humvee and a (...)   Re: New MOC: Hummer

(...) I have to agree; you and Jay both rock at Minifig vehicles. I had started to build a hummer ages ago, but gave up (the windows I used forced it to be 8 wide, and I just couldn't quite make it look right. But yours and Jay's make me wish I'd (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

  RE: New MOC: Hummer

(...) Mine is approximately the same scale as my 8 wide vehicles...the Hummer is a very wide vehicle, after all. (...) An intentional optical illusion :) The bottom of a 1x1 round plate is larger than the top stud, so I put the light in backwards. (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

  Re: New MOC: Hummer

(...) My guess would be he's differentiating between the civilian vehicle, a Hummer, and the military vehicle, the HMMWV. But other'n that, I dunno. -JDF (23 years ago, 23-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

  Re: New MOC: Hummer

(...) Hi! First of all: Again, great detail an very clever usage of parts! ("Sideway-slopes" at fenders, the rugged door-hinges ...) For the wheels: I think it's not so much the wheels that do not fit, but the roof of the car looks a bit too high (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

  RE: New MOC: Hummer

(...) Thanks again :) (...) You're absolutely right! I don't mind the heaviness (makes it look rugged), but I did lower the roof and the doors by one plate. It now looks much less toy-ish, and the wheels look more to scale. Amazing what a plate can (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

  Re: New MOC: Hummer

(...) Yeah, I noticed that; what I meant was looking at yours and Jay's really make me want to go 1-2 wider, but I can't really because then it'd be wider than my semi's! (...) Oh, I thought I had implied that along with the small Technic wheels, I (...) (23 years ago, 25-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

  Re: New MOC: Hummer

I thought they were called humvees. They're a 4 door, but they don't have a box. Just about a 70 degree slope down to the back. It's the kind you always see on TV, in music videos, etc. I'm afraid the firebrid had to get scrapped. I tried for an (...) (23 years ago, 25-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

  RE: New MOC: Hummer

(...) OK. I guess Humvees are the military vehicles and Hummers are civilian. Since mine doesn't have a mahine gun and I used Hummer photos for reference, I guess it's still a Hummer (That might make it GM instead of AM General though, I'm not (...) (23 years ago, 26-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

(...) have most of the front end built. It's looking to be model team scaled. I am thinking of trying to make another, more minifig friendly version in a 6 stud wide scale. I'll post pics soon. (23 years ago, 26-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)

  Re: New MOC: Hummer

(...) Okay...someone gave me a set as they were leaving our company that seems to have some that might be just right. I found a link to the set, the Nitro Bike GTX500, here on Lugnet: (URL) balloons (I agree, that's probably not the look you (...) (23 years ago, 5-Feb-01, to lugnet.build)
