For the wheels:
I think it's not so much the wheels that do not fit, but the roof
of the car looks a bit too high and also pretty "heavy". Maybe
taking out a row of plates or using columns that look lighter
(though I don't know what you could use)would help.

You're absolutely right!  I don't mind the heaviness (makes it look rugged),
but I did lower the roof and the doors by one plate.  It now looks much less
toy-ish, and the wheels look more to scale.  Amazing what a plate can do :)
