  10 Starship Designs

More League of Planets starships, very Star Trekish. Jamal Coleman (24 years ago, 11-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

*Sorry* 10 Starship Designs - An Here's the Link *Sorry*

Sorry about that folks (...) (24 years ago, 11-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

Re: *Sorry* 10 Starship Designs - An Here's the Link *Sorry*

(...) Some Q's: How'd you get that round spine effect on the heavy threat vessel? What do the little lever bases represent? (I have an idea... :-) Cheers, - jsproat (24 years ago, 11-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

  Re: 10 Starship Designs

(...) I don't understand how the cylinder merges with the sloped pieces in the middle. Is this a legal Lego construction? This model: (URL) (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

  Re: 10 Starship Designs

Chuck, I wouldn't go so far as to say it's an illegal construction. Sometimes to achieve a specific vision a certain creative freedom is used to get the desired effect and result. Could you actually build it? Well, no, but then again I'm quite (...) (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

  Re: 10 Starship Designs

(...) Sure, but isn't that missing the fun of building with Lego? I mean, if you're not going to work with the medium, why not just use modeling clay? (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

  Re: 10 Starship Designs

(...) I quite agree. Chopping and cutting is well....almost cheating. Besides the fact that I have to wonder *who* would have enough of a particular part to go cutting stuff up like there's no tomorrow, it seems merely a copout. The real challenge (...) (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

  Re: 10 Starship Designs

I couldn't disagree with you more Matthew. I'm 29, I'm an AFOL, my poor legos sat in their box for years, unused. Then one day I got them out for my kids and got the bug again but didn't have the pieces to build the things I wanted and with two (...) (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

  Re: 10 Starship Designs

(...) I hold the opinion that a little modifying here and there doesn't hurt, PROVIDING what you make still looks like lego (most important! If people see your piece in a pic and ask "what set did that come from?", that's great) and also if the (...) (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

  Re: 10 Starship Designs

Sam I can assure that no LEGO was harmed in the making of any of my creations. No actual CUTTING or CHOPPING was done to any LEGO, it's done with special effects CAD, like in the movies. Jamal Coleman (...) then (...) (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

  Re: 10 Starship Designs

To All, I am rather curious, I have not been following too closely in terms of this discussion, but from what I saw of Jamal's ships, they don't have the bumps on them. Is there something else, or is that it? I think the ships are nice, even though (...) (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

  Re: 10 Starship Designs

(...) I was referring to how the cylinder merges with the sloped pieces in the middle of this model: HeavyThreat.jpg (URL) know of no Lego pieces that fit together in this way. If there are, I wanted to know the details of which pieces they are. I (...) (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

NO LEGOS HARMED Was: 10 Starship Designs

Since it seems a matter of great concern to some of us, let me reiterate once more NO LEGO was harmed, cut or chopped by me to make any creation, not now or in the future. (Though when I was younger I was guilty of biting the sideburns off of (...) (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

Re: NO LEGOS HARMED Was: 10 Starship Designs

(...) It's not hard to figure out how you did it, but I think most people view LDraw (and associated programs) as being ways of documenting things you can actually, physically do. In other words, having two Lego elements in LDraw occupying the same (...) (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

Re: NO LEGOS HARMED Was: 10 Starship Designs

Thank you Eric. I can't wait to show you more. Jamal (...) actually, (...) the (...) (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

  Re: 10 Starship Designs

(...) I certainly didn't mean to say that your stuff doesn't look cool. My point is, why bother with LDraw at all? Why not use a more sophisticated general-purpose modeling program? (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

  Rendering impossible to build models

(...) I am well aware of what POV can render. I have been modeling in POV for years, long before I discoved tools for creating dat files and converting them to POV. Although your models are very cool looking, They appear to not be buildable out of (...) (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: NO LEGOS HARMED Was: 10 Starship Designs

(...) No we must assimilate him into the collective. :-). Just kidding of course. I also think they are very creative even if they can't be built with actual bricks. Heck thats all we are all trying to do is be a little creative. Nice work, Eric (...) (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

Re: NO LEGOS HARMED Was: 10 Starship Designs

Jamal, Eric, & All, (...) LDraw (...) occupying (...) more. Indeed. I think they are creative, even if some don't, which is fine as well. Lord knows it would be boring if we are all the same. Scott S. -- Systems Administrator-Affiliated Engineers -> (...) (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)

  Re: 10 Starship Designs

(...) A) I really like Legos. B) I've never fooled around with a modeling program before LDraw/LEdit and I really like it. I have no idea what else is out there, but one day I'm sure I'll get bored again and have to something else to pass my free (...) (24 years ago, 13-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)
