I couldn't disagree with you more Matthew.  I'm 29, I'm an AFOL, my poor legos
sat in their box for years, unused.  Then one day I got them out for my kids
and got the bug again but didn't have the pieces to build the things I wanted
and with two small kids I can think of better things to spend my money on than
buying Legos (though I would love to) and then I came upon LDraw.  The answer
to my prayers.  I could build whatever I wanted, I had all the pieces I could
ever need.  I mostly build things that can be built but the fun for me is in
translating what I see in my head to the computer.  Why waste time and money
with modeling clay when LDraw is all I need?  I guess I'm just from a
different school of building than you, but I'll take my creations anyday, I
just like the way they look.

again I'm quite certain that people who build my starships have heard of
welding and cutting, so that makes it OK.

Sure, but isn't that missing the fun of building with Lego? I mean, if
you're not going to work with the medium, why not just use modeling clay?

(...) I certainly didn't mean to say that your stuff doesn't look cool. My point is, why bother with LDraw at all? Why not use a more sophisticated general-purpose modeling program? (24 years ago, 12-Jul-00, to lugnet.build)
