Joe's Donuts is open for business! —Tony Hafner
Do your Legoland police need a new place to hang out? One with a little more style than that Dunkin' somethin' down the street? One that is well-protected? Send 'em to Joe's! (URL) thanks to Suzanne Rich for inspiration- I've wanted to do a roof (...) (22 years ago, 6-Feb-03, to lugnet.announce.moc, lugnet.town) !!

(...) I love the sign with the logo. Is it attached to the roof? I really like the lamp post, too. Nifty work, -Kevin (22 years ago, 7-Feb-03, to lugnet.town)

Re: Joe's Donuts is open for business! —Tony Hafner
(...) Thanks! Yes, I have to admit some inspiration from Pizza Hut. Though it seems like a number of other large chains also use a similar roof shape. (...) Yes, the sign is two studs thick and the back half is studded to the roof plates. As you've (...) (22 years ago, 7-Feb-03, to lugnet.town)

Re: Joe's Donuts is open for business! —Brendan Powell Smith
(...) fleshed out, and combined with that steeper sloped section, it makes for a very distinctive roof indeed. Those cops with riot shields really cracked me up. And I've been in real donut shops whose interior was that cramped. Cheers, -The Rev. (...) (22 years ago, 7-Feb-03, to lugnet.town)

Re: Joe's Donuts is open for business! —Tony Hafner
(...) Legoland's finest have to keep their sugar source secure! Ever since the WTO conference in Seattle a few years back, I've wanted a good excuse to use some cops in riot gear. A donut shop is a little iffy perhaps, but it works and is socially (...) (22 years ago, 7-Feb-03, to lugnet.town)

Re: Joe's Donuts is open for business! —Jonathan Wilson
(...) I like it. I especially like the roof and the lamp posts (I wish I had some of those silver bits :) Where in gods name did you get all the 2x2 round tiles in green? (22 years ago, 7-Feb-03, to lugnet.town)

Re: Joe's Donuts is open for business! —Tony Hafner
(...) Heh, that's a trade secret. Actually, there's a little shop in Legoland California that sells by weight and occasionally has some rather unusual parts. When I saw those tiles, I knew exactly what I was going to do with them. -- Tony Hafner (...) (22 years ago, 7-Feb-03, to lugnet.town)

Re: Joe's Donuts is open for business! —Brendan Powell Smith
(...) Do you mind sharing which shop or shops are the best for finding unusual parts? I noticed a couple of these shops last year at BricksWest, but it was right before closing and I didn't have time to look for cool parts. I also remember there (...)         Re: Joe's Donuts is open for business! —Allister McLaren
mmmm... donuts. Sorry. I just had a Homer moment. I am particularly envious of your pile of chrome pipe pieces, of which I have exactly NONE. waaaaah! As usual, apart from the overall classiness, your model is loaded with neat little touches that (...) (22 years ago, 7-Feb-03, to lugnet.town)

Re: Joe's Donuts is open for business! —Tony Hafner
(...) The chrome bits are usually used to add tiny accents (ie tailpipes), but can be really cool in quantity. I'd love to have a whole town filled with these lampposts, but I don't expect I'll get to do that. I remember seeing a train a long time (...) (22 years ago, 7-Feb-03, to lugnet.town)

Re: Joe's Donuts is open for business! —Kevin Salm
(...) I think it was done by Kevin Loch some time ago. Look in his Brickshelf folder. ____ (22 years ago, 8-Feb-03, to lugnet.town)

(...) Excellent- and there it is! (URL) I'd forgotten that the body was made of silver bricks too. -- Tony Hafner www.hafhead.com (22 years ago, 8-Feb-03, to lugnet.town)

Re: Joe's Donuts is open for business! —Mark Papenfuss
(...) Well, there is the Maniac Clubhouse. It is in Funtown, by the driving school and the large firefighter statue they put up. But their selection of parts has become sad as of late. Last year during BW time they had the bins full of the older (...) (22 years ago, 7-Feb-03, to lugnet.legoland.california)

Re: Joe's Donuts is open for business! —Scott Costello
(...) Mark is dead on, the buckets in the clubhouse that contain the bulk, by weight stuff has been throughly picked through, and often chewed. The only bulk stuff I ever buy there is at the counter, where they sometimes have unusual new bricks in (...) (22 years ago, 7-Feb-03, to lugnet.legoland.california)

Re: Joe's Donuts is open for business! —Bruce Hietbrink
Tony, Great model. That roof design looks great, and the color scheme is very striking and very remniscent of fast food chains. I also like the little flip-up counter. That's a detail I wouldn't have remembered to include, so my minifigs would have (...) (22 years ago, 7-Feb-03, to lugnet.town)
