| | PP 1444 X, my P-38 contest entry Ley Ward
| | | Greetings .spacers, I would like to present my entry to the P-38 Contest. Please find a comfortable chair. Whateverly Labs has produced the PP 1444 X under contract to Improbable Industries. The propulsion system is, unfortunately, classified at (...) (21 years ago, 27-Mar-04, to lugnet.announce.moc, lugnet.build.schleim, lugnet.space, FTX)

| | | | | (...) Hi Ley, It's a clever design with some cool ideas, I particularly like the domed-cylinder-throu...the-arches thing. It seems like too radical a departure from the P-38 design to be a competitive entry, though. Is there a prize for the most (...) (21 years ago, 28-Mar-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)
| | | | | | | | | | | | Re: PP 1444 X, my P-38 contest entry Ley Ward
| | | | | | (...) I'll take 'clever', 'cool', 'radical' and 'oddball', but I don't know about 'too'. In thinking of a 'space' version, I went to three dimensions and no 'right way up' so I 'squared' it. I could easily remove two of the wings and connect the (...) | | | | | | (...) I'd advise against it. The design, as it stands, is very innovative and just plain cool. Who cares if it isn't P-38ish? This is maybe your best moc so far, and, i think, your most ambitious. While i always enjoy the creative little bots and (...) (21 years ago, 29-Mar-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Re: PP 1444 X, my P-38 contest entry Ley Ward
| | | | | | (...) Thank you Lenny. I definitely went ambitious on this one. There are other ambitious things in the works, and they will appear in due course. (Including the other very different, 'first' version of a cross-wing P-38 design still in progress.) (...) (21 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

| | | | | Ley this is a great ship. I really like the slide-open cockpit and arch-insets in the wings. Like Paul, I'm not feeling the P-38 vibe on this one, but it is cool nonetheless. The only aspect of the ship I didn't like was the drive-dingus that hangs (...) (21 years ago, 28-Mar-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)
| | | | | | | | | | | | Re: PP 1444 X, my P-38 contest entry Ley Ward
| | | | | | (...) Thank you, Keith. I'm glad you like it, and that you point out two of my favourite parts. I shall definitely re-use both the cockpit and the arch ideas in the future. The vibe will come to you if you let it. This ship has a certain modularity (...) (21 years ago, 31-Mar-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

| | | | | (...) Ley- this thing rocks!! There are so many cool details, and your unique way of putting bricks together shines through in spades. It even has a color scheme! (heh) (...) Heh, that sounds familiar. (...) That is truly beautiful. Canopies that (...) (21 years ago, 29-Mar-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)
| | | | | | | | | | | | Build notes (was Re: PP 1444 X, my P-38 contest entry) Ley Ward
| | | | | | (...) Thank you so much, Tony. I did try to approximate the colour of the original, except that white takes the place of the original metallic colour. I know that the (URL) Space> (URL) Hippies> struck fear into some hearts here, but I generally use (...) (21 years ago, 31-Mar-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

| | | | | (...) Ley, that is a truly great design you have there pal, I saw it on Brickshelf few days ago, the looks, the details and the whole concept are just beyond words.. But like the others had noted, I don't see much of a P-38 influence in it.. Yes I (...) (21 years ago, 31-Mar-04, to lugnet.space)

| | | | | | (...) Thank you, Joseph, for your kind words and the 'beyond words' about which we can only speculate. I know I am often speechless before some designs too. I went back to my gallery and realized that I hadn't posted an image that showed the (...) (21 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

| | | | | (...) (snipage) (...) Nice! For all the reasons mentioned already, and the much underused yellow/white colours scheme. The brick wings vs. the traditional plate ones are a nice departure too. I get a real retro feel from this one....good stuff. -Gil (21 years ago, 31-Mar-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)
| | | | | | | | | | | | Re: PP 1444 X, my P-38 contest entry (and build notes) Ley Ward
| | | | | (...) Thank you kindly, Gil. I've always admired your work, but I don't know if I've had the opportunity to say so. So, there it is. Speaking of 'departure', those 1x6x6 slopes have an infuriating tendency to leap off of their point of attachment at (...) (21 years ago, 7-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.schleim, FTX)
