  Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

Has anyone else noticed the distinct name sharing going on between life on Mars and battlestar galactica, the most horrilbe, yet strangely entertaining, space saga known to man? The air tube hangar comes with minifigs named Riegel, and Cassiopeia. (...) (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.announce, lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.space)

  Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

(...) Hm. I hate to spoil your show, but all of the aliens in LoM are named after stars (which is also where Galactica got those names). J (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.space)

  Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

(...) Don't worry, you aren't spoiling the show, it was born rotten! I'm aware of the correlation between the space saga's and the star names, I was just wondering why those names were chosen over names like Polaris or Centauri, is there a (...)   Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

Maybe the aliens are evolved from Battlstar descendents, not knowing how close they wer to Eart. If no one knew about the aliens on Mars, how come they have such...err... NOT RED stuff??? Rick (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.space)

  Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

(...) Nah, They're drawing from two different sources. Life on Mars is naming characters after stars & constellations; BG used names from classic Greek & Roman mythology(1). There's just a lot of cross-over, that's all. James 1:When not naming them (...) (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.space)

  Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

(...) Actually, I think Centauri is another of the Martians from the theme. Another is Pollux. I have counted 10 different Martian figs. Each one has a different color torso/legs. None of them is repeated from one set to the next if I'm not (...) (24 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.space)

(...) hey, that's not weird! it's a classic reference!(1) J 1:Moby Dick (24 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.space)

  Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

(...) Actually, Cassiopeia is a constellation of stars... ;) It's a good thing they didn't name any of the characters Zubeneschamali (sp?) -Bryan (24 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.space)

You mean the coffee place isn't named after a BG character? ;^) ~Mark "Muffin Head" Sandlin (24 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.space)

  Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

Hm, where's John Ladasky when we need him? :) (...) Where do you think the stars got their names? :) Well, most of them, anyways; Rigel (not "Riegel" or whatever they transliter- ated) is, I think, Arabic in origin as many stellar names are. (...)   Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

(...) Hmmm...somehow, I think people would rather drink coffee from "Starbuck's" than from, say, "Queequeg's." However, if anyone wants to market animal feed, I'll propose the name "Call me Fishmeal." :) ack. best Lindsay XFUT -> .o-t.fun (24 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.space, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

(...) Actually, so is Centauri... though I suppose that's open to interpretation. :) Alpha Cetauri (a binary star) + Proxima Centauri = trinary system perhaps? -- -Bones- "Being Optimized for Nocturnal Exploration and Sabotage" = (URL) = NecroBones (...)   Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

(...) Oh, of course... absolutely. I'd love to see names that were completely invented words with no 'earthling' equivlant.. However the naming scheme they chose could be interpreted in two acceptible ways that I see: 1) They're named after those (...) (24 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.space)

  Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

There is a Centauri, he comes with the red planet protector if I remember right. Box is downstairs, he's on my desk, too lazy to get up and look this late..   Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

(...) Hm, sadly, I think he's mistaken. Pollux comes in the big $50 mech, but the C-alien with him isn't Castor. (I think it's Canopus.) I remember wondering if Castor was going to be in one of the other sets... J (24 years ago, 13-Dec-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.space)

  Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

So far I love the little martian sets.. the mechs are wonderful. But I'm finding that I'm having a hard time bringing myself to spend $50 and $90 for the larger sets when they don't look terribly interesting. Does anyone have an opinion on them? (...)   Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

I have seen all of the Mars sets and think they all rock! I am really impressed with the station. You can actually use an air pump to shoot a single martian laying flat in a little carrier through several tubes. I have had trouble tearing myself (...)   Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

Ah Cool, so that is what it does. I was trying to discern from the pictures. The local TRU didn't have the big set. I picked up the two Mechs & the Tri-Trike or whatever it is called. I love the mechs. I'm going to have to get some more. And with (...) (24 years ago, 14-Dec-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.space)

  Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

(...) Yeah, the neatest thing about it is that you can send the martian either direction by rotating the air pump. And there are three possible tubes to send the carrier in and you can send up one and down another all without having to remove the (...)   Mars, martians, and mechs

  Re: Mars, martians, and mechs

(...) I agree. The arms actually grip fairly well; I'm using them for all kinds of machinery and technical detail...that is, I *will*, as soon as I have more than 3 or 4. Interesting note about the Martian head: Its base clips fit between the two (...) (24 years ago, 17-Dec-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.space)

  Re: Battlestar Galactica on Mars?

(...) Actually, there are some other ways to name individuals from other planets. If I remember correctly, in one of the Stainless Steel Rat novels, our hero was sent to a planet called "Burada" (means "here" in Turkish). All the names here (such (...)
