  Lego acquires new license

Hey all, I heard some great news yesterday! I was talking to a friend of mine at Bandai Entertainment, and he said that the toy division was very excited over a new Licensing Agreement they had just reached on Friday. Apparently, Lego has acquired (...) (23 years ago, 1-Apr-02, to lugnet.announce) !

  Re: Lego acquires new license

Actually, I talked to Jeff about this yesterday (sunday). He didn't even know it was easter yesterday, so I can guarantee this is real. Whats even more interesting about this license is going to be LEGO's comments on the violence issue. -Jon (WOW!) (...) (23 years ago, 1-Apr-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) You know, my heart rate doubled when I read that. I though to my self..'Tony, The Lego Group does love you.' But alas, I read the other replies and remembered today was the day of pranks and pranksters. Oh well. out tk (23 years ago, 1-Apr-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Lego acquires new license

(...) And even if it were true, you'd have to realize that TLC would undoubtedly design their Gundams with a minimum of pieces and a large number of Bionicle-type pseudobricks--hardly the Mecha you've all been waiting for, I should think...   PICS FOUND!!!! Re: Lego acquires new license

After reading this thread, I had to find out if it was true or not. It looks like it is true because I went digging through both Lego and Bandai's secured servers and found a pic of one of the prototypes which I uploaded to my folder: (URL) I'm (...) (...) I really like what you have done with the beam cannon, looks great! The viewer on the shield is also a sweet detail. An overall very compact and detailed model. (...) To tell you something, I'm not the least bit surprised, but, IF this is an april fools joke, than I am surprised! Nice try, Jeff.   Re: Lego acquires new license

(...) I would, given that Bandai has been very protective with their Gundam product lines, and both LEGO and Bandai has been heading toward the same direction in the last few year w.r.t. their construction toys/models. Bandai's models are very easy (...) (23 years ago, 1-Apr-02, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Lego acquires new license

(...) Think about the Star Wars sets in a sense. Alone, normal models by LucasFilm took a long time and plenty of glue to put together, and you weren't guaranteed good results. And, the cheap imitation models made by other companies didn't even (...) (23 years ago, 1-Apr-02, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Lego acquires new license

(...) The difference is LucasFilm don't sell models or toys themselve. They just licence their design to Hasbro and LEGO. Bandai owns Gundam and sell their own toys and models. (...) Actually most serious model makers modify their Gundam models. It (...) (23 years ago, 2-Apr-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: PICS FOUND!!!! Re: Lego acquires new license

(...) I was rather shocked this AM, Josette had Martha Stewart on and she was explaining how to make and serve up "the perfect glass of water" and showing how she turned the cereal boxes inside out to make them "match the decor of your kitchen"...   Re: Lego acquires new license

(...) Even so, I'm sure if Lego were to license Gundam models, trhey would be in the same sense of star wars sets. This isn't really an issue of licensing here, but even though LucasFilm license out their models, that makes it really no different (...) (23 years ago, 2-Apr-02, to lugnet.general)
