In response to Scott, but not necessarily directed at Scott but the whole
community.

The issue that Larry is discussing is true, the festival was held fairly
late on the second evening right before closing ceremonies and the drawing
for prizes. Several people just weren't into committing that much time to
the festival. So you combine the elements of the late hour, the anticipation
of prizes, the length of some of the movies, and just the general
disinterest that some AFOL's have in animation; and you can understand some
folks displeasure. Personally I loved it, and continue to scour the web for
copies so I can watch them again and show some of them to my wife.

The problems with the Animation Festival were entirely mine and mine alone. No
one else, not Matt, Tim, Ahui, no one, has any responsibility for the
approximately 120 minutes that I kept everyone captive prior to the closing
ceremony and the receipt of their door prizes.

I thought that I had communicated with the schedulers that I need 2 hours from
animation. Since I did not have all of the animations in my hand until Monday
2/10 I was not aware how much time I would need. The Comedy Competition films
came in at approximately 35 to 40 minutes and the General Animation Films
lasted about 85 to 90 minutes. My failure to correctly read the advance
schedules and interpret the amount of time that was alotted to me, was my fault
alone.

The entire idea of each contest was to show the hard work of any indivdual that
took the time and effort to submit an entry on time. I am sorry that I don't
have the where-with-all to kick people out of the competition because I don't
like their subject matter or like their style of animation. I am sorry that I
didn't have the cahones (phonetic spelling) to pick and choose among everyone's
hard work to shorten the time frame upon which the animations ran.

As for the technical problems, all my fault. I wish I had better equipment or
more technical expertise to convert everyone's computer files to top notch
videography, but alas I do not.

The animation festival started at 7:30PM, 1/2 an hour late, and concluded at
9:30. In retro spect, I wish the animations could have occured over two
evenings. I would have done the general first and had the comedy competition on
the night of the closing ceremonies.

I appologize to everyone who did not enjoy the animation festival and felt
captive to the program while waiting for the door prizes.

Thanks to Scott for thanking me, but I really feel bad that anyone, I mean
anyone, came away with negative feelings about the animation festival.

Sicnerely,

Todd

Scott

Lemme chime in here with my opinion on the matter. This was the first animation festival I have ever attended, having missed last years. I was blown away, truely impressed with all the entries (thanks again Todd). Unfortunately the sheet that (...) (22 years ago, 19-Feb-03, to lugnet.events.brickswest, lugnet.animation)
