No, actually, IIRC (from *reading* about it,
not from firsthand experience) :-P
spectacles were invented in the Late Dark Ages/Early Rennaisance.
They weren't very *good*, being simply generic lenses,
very unlike the specialized lightweight wonders we've got today,
but they were (mostly) better than nothing.
