As mentioned here, the
LUGNET administration team has been working on a Policies and Procedures
document (sometimes called the P&P for short) that will help clarify to
everyone what the various roles and responsibilities related to LUGNET
administration are, and what specific actions each role is intended to carry
out. It also includes such things as guidelines of conduct and information
about when actions should be initiated, as well as boilerplate for certain
kinds of notices.
This document has reached a stage where it is ready for peer review, and we
have asked (as alluded to in this post) a select group of peers to do just that, review it. They will
give us feedback, and make suggestions for revisions, additions and
deletions as appropriate. We will carefully consider all the suggestions
made, and iterate the P&P until we are satisfied that it is ready for
general release and use.
At that time we will make it public and it will possibly become part (by
reference) of the Terms of Use of LUGNET (although most of what it proscribes
are behaviours of administrators rather than members, it still seems to make
sense that it be part of the ToU).
We also intend to spend time revising and streamlining the Terms of Use
themselves to make them more uniform and incorporate the many codicils,
addendums, posts that have special meaning, and so forth that have grown
up around them. That work has just barely begun so rather than wait till
that was complete, we are commissioning the Review Committee to address the
P&P first, with the hope that they will be willing to assist with the ToU as
well.
Long term we plan to create a special new newsgroup where
specific modifications to the ToU will be temporarily parked pending
revision of the ToU itself, so that we can reduce the confusion that
currently exists about what exactly is a codicil and what is a guideline and
what is just opinion.
The following community members have agreed to serve on the committee. We
would ask you that you give them your support, and input as appropriate, but
not hound them with questions as to their activities, as we have asked them
to not publicly discuss the draft till it is ready to release.
- Kevin Clague - USA
- Janey Cook - Canada
- Dave Eaton - USA
- Rob Hendrix - USA
- Chris Magno - Canada
- Huw Millington - UK
We have one additional member that has not yet confirmed, and who will be
announced later.
We had a number of other folks express interest in helping out, which is
gratifying. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to them for
volunteering, along with our regret that not everyone that volunteered was
selected. There will be additional opportunities in future.
We would like to thank everyone involved for helping to make LUGNET a better
place.
