Anyway, I just used Alans string of test messages to test out the SUBMIT
RATINGS feature.  It did not work for me.  Here is what I did:
I pulled up the thread display
http://www.lugnet.com/off-topic/test/?n=1523&t=i&v=c
and then selected the last few messages first by clicking one of the dots,
then I rated it and then clicked the next post icon in the Light Blue band
at the top of the page.

Hmm.  There actually isn't any next-post icon in the light blue band.  Do you
mean that you clicked an underlined number in the light blue band to proceed
to the next message?  If so, that causes an HTTP GET request, not an HTTP
post request.

Repeated the process five or six times.  Then called up the
thread display again and hit SUBMIT RATINGS.
No good.  Did not change the ratings for the messages.

If you haven't omitted any steps from the description above, that's the
correct result.

Any tips or procedural info??

Did you forget to press the "Submit Rating" button each time before walking
to the next message?  It doesn't buffer up your ratings from page to page.

When you click "Submit Ratings", that button is part of an HTML form that
applies to the radio buttons on that page display only.  What did the radio
buttons show at the time you clicked "Submit Ratings"?  (Sounds like they
were blank...?)

Okay, I think I understand.  So, right now the submit ratings button on a
thread display page is useless and serves no purpose, as I understand you.  I
guess we are all resigned to submit individual ratings on a per-message basis
(not a complaint, however).  I was thinking that the submit ratings button on a
thread display page could be used to submit ratings for multiple messages
within that thread.  I guess I was thinking incorrectly.

(...) Disagree. (...) This is not so. If you click on the submit button, whether it's for one post or for a whole tree worth, whatever ratings you have set will be reapplied (unless it's a very large tree, as I said before), because you do a POST. (...) nono -- it's not useless at all -- what the button simply means is "apply all of the radio button selections currently visible on this HTML page." (...)
