I bollixed up how I describe this... (...) (meaning: the list that gives the stats for 1999, the one that Tim Courtney was referring to in the post that caused Todd to generate post 1396) (...) I'm also not sure where 2003's list is either (meaning: (...) (21 years ago, 30-Oct-03, to lugnet.general, lugnet.people, lugnet.admin.nntp)

(...) Nope. But I know how to look for stuff, a valuable skill to cultivate here. The search box is your friend. start here: (URL) get reminded that the list is called "top 1000 noisemakers" which is a singularly un-useful name for it as it's not (...)   FTX courtesy to NNTP

As more of a newsreader user, incorrectly formatted FTX code on LUGNET has been troubling me lately. Non NNTP users might not realize, but FTX code formatted like the link below is a pain for NNTP users to just click on and be directed to you link (...)   FUT bug?

See this post: (URL) note where FUT is set. Then see the two posts below it in the thread. One honors the FUT and one (by Dan, who I can't imagine would actually make a mistake) doesn't. Do we have a small bug here somewhere or was the FUT set wrong (...) (21 years ago, 9-Oct-03, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: Important message for people connecting via NNTP

(...) Additionally (assuming that port 119 is permanently turned off) it would be a good idea to change "Setting up a newsreader" in (URL) de-emphasize port 119 and possibly provide links for how to use a non-default nntp port in various newsreaders (...)   Re: distributed denial of service attack

(...) So THAT's what was going on! I got over 2200 .swen virus emails in the 10 days or so preceding the closing of that port, and then, as you mentioned, they stopped like a switch had been flipped. Thanks so much for fixing that, Todd! Adrian (21 years ago, 2-Oct-03, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

  distributed denial of service attack

I believe the recent "distributed denial of service attack" was SWEN. I was getting copies of that from all over the world to my lugnews address, and only to my lugnews address, until you moved ports. That shut off the incoming viri like a switch. I (...)   Re: Important message for people connecting via NNTP

Sorry to have bothered you guys with this. It was just me being stupid: forgot to open port 1119 on the firewall.... All's fine again now. Duq (...) (21 years ago, 29-Sep-03, to lugnet.admin.nntp)
