It's hard to respond to a fortune cookie, but if you mean that this path leads
away from past mistakes, I have a question for you:

Is Jesse Alan Long still banned?

I would love to hear that his posting ability was re-instated, and that Lugnet
Admins had apologised to him for the shabby treatment he received at their
hands, but somehow I doubt it.

I think that there is a distinction, however small, between JAL's post and
Matt's post. I don't want to get in to that though - I don't feel that it's
constructive.

The thing about Matt's post that I find offensive is the subject line. A
couple of off color words are OK if they are minor (once again, I don't have
the desire to debate what is minor and what is not. Use your imagination.)
and in the body of the post. It helps "bury" the words so they aren't as
noticeable to the rest of the community. What Matt did was take a word that
most people don't find too offensive and shout it from the rooftops so that
everyone heard it whether they wanted to or not. That's what I find offensive.

I think Suz did the right thing by asking him to tone done the message. I
don't think that anything else needs to be done at this stage, no banning,
no other reprimands, nothing. In fact, I already feel like this horse is
next to dead and shouldn't be flogged any longer. The issue was noted and
Matt was reprimanded. Let's move forward and work on something constructive.

Duane,
Thanks for pointing out exactly where I was going with my argument. He
screwed up and got shot down for the language abuse. We can remember the lesson,
move on, and all be better for it.
