Todd, Since most members don't seem to rate messages very often, I had an idea to help pick top stories...Can you keep track of how many replies a message has? If so, then a lot of replies to a fairly recent message (fuzzy sorting again) would (...) (24 years ago, 3-Nov-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) I've noticed that most messages get very few ratings. But I'm not sure that counting followups can replace ratings, because someone posting a response to a message doesn't indicate that they feel the message is important or newsworthy. (...) (24 years ago, 3-Nov-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) I think that's a great idea.... in the web interface, add the vote pulldown menu to it, so you can vote with the same "POST" request... for email and NNTP (which currently can't vote, and can't even see the votes), allow either a custom header (...) (...) *puzzled* I think you missed the context, which was that maybe messages should get marked up slightly just for having a lot of responses. (I'm not convinced that this would really be a good thing, but it's an interesting idea.) (24 years ago, 4-Nov-00, to lugnet.admin.general)
