Hi ... I'm a compartmentalized dork ... :^)
I'd be surprised if this hasn't been suggested, but why
not have a lugnet.castle.marketplace, a lugnet.space.marketplace,
lugnet.starwars.marketplace, etc?
This is a subtly different idea than having a marketplace.castle,
marketplace.space, etc, in that users of the web browser would
get to read the auction and for-sale announcements mixed in with
with the rest of the .castle or .space messages, unless they
configured their settings to exclude the group. Which they could
do.
Auctioneers would be well advised to cross-post their advertisements
to the general .marketplace newsgroup, of course.
This could make happy both the people who'd like to advertise
amongst the same social group who actually likes to discuss the
line, by allowing them to read all the messages in the .castle
heirarchy together, and the people who would see such messages
as an intrusion, by allowing them to skip or ignore the
castle.marketplace newsgroup.
For users who use newsreaders rather than the web-interface,
there would be no advantage or disadvantage of having
a marketplace.castle rather than a castle.marketplace
I'd like to see something like this. I'm rarely motivated to
check the .marketplace section, but if the ads could be read
in the .castle heirarchy, I would read more of them, and thus
participate in the sales more often.
Any thoughts? (Has this already been suggested and rejected?)
