homepage bringing forth weird results —Shiri Dori
Hey, Ever since last night I've been getting some weird stuff on the lugnet homepage. Sometimes, when I click on the "Home" link from a post, I get the current posts. Then, other times, I get older posts - from last night. These are the same posts (...) (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) What web browser are you using? How are your cache options set? You say it always displays the current posts when you click Refresh/Reload? --Todd (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —Shiri Dori
(...) MSIE 5. (...) Er... <ignorant dweeb, I am> what's the cache? :-) (...) Yep. Oh, and I figured out WHEN it does that. Sorry, not when I click on "home" but when I click on my browser's "back". I think Dave Eaton just explained how to fix that, (...) (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —Todd Lehman
(...) It's reloading the homepage when you return to it via the Back button? That's not good. --Todd (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —David Eaton
(...) Sounds like a cacheing problem with your browser-- your browser looks at the url "(URL) and says "Oh! I've been THERE before! I won't waste my user's time by downloading it again (cuz for those people on 14.4 modems, that'd take a while), so (...) (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —Shiri Dori
(...) Hmm... after reading this, I *thought* that was the problem. So I turned off the cacheing feature (whatever that is :) ... it still isn't working. Every time I click on my "back" browser button it brings the same old posts. :-/ -Shiri (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —David Eaton
(...) Ahh! Well, sadly (or happily perhaps!) you can't fix that. That's actually what the 'back' button is supposed to do... this actually comes in handy at times believe it or not... But if you want to make sure you load the new page, you'll have (...) (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —Shiri Dori
(...) Oh, I know that much! But up till now, the browser would bring forth the latest version that I had refreshed. But now, it keeps refreshing to the same point in time - last night posts. That's pretty annoying. If this continues on, I'll be (...) (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —Todd Lehman
(...) That sounds like some kind of weird browser cache bug. What happens when you clear out your cache? (I think this is labeled "Temporary Internet Files" in MSIE...) --Todd (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —Dan Boger
(...) just curious, Todd - why don't you put an expires-at tag on the front page? or are you trying to avoid unneeded hits? Dan (24 years ago, 23-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —Shiri Dori
        (...) same (...) Still doesn't work. :-\ -Shiri (24 years ago, 23-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —David Eaton
(...) Oh! So basically, what happened: Click to lugnet - displays lugnet (version A) Click to somehwere else - displays other page Click to lugnet - displays lugnet (version B) Click "Back" twice - displays lugnet (version A) [this sounds like a (...)            Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —Shiri Dori
(...) Yep, that's what happened (still is). (...) Didn't work. (...) How do I do that? (...) Make that majick, and I'll be inclined to agree... :-) (...) ^^^...^^^ ROFLOL!!! (...) I'll pass, thanks... -Shiri (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —David Eaton
(...) It's under: tools->internet options...->temporary internet files->delete files... That SHOULD fix your problem :) (barring majick) DaveE (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —Shiri Dori

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —Todd Lehman
(...) Yup! Alt-Left, Ctrl-R under Win32. :-) (...) A server can add expiry and cache pragmas to the outgoing HTTP response, if it wants to expire pages after a certain amount of time. Then, if the browser is set to check the date, it ought to reload (...) (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —Todd Lehman
(...) That's the *right* behavior -- the Back button should *not* cause a re-load of any web page *ever* unless it's gone from the cache. If browsers refetched things when the Back buttons was pressed -- especially pages with forms and things -- it (...) (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —Shiri Dori
(...) No, that's not what I mean. Let me try and restate my sentence: *Every* time I click my back button on my browser, I get the SAME post sequence, even AFTER I've refreshed the homepage few times between one back click to another. The sequence (...) (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —Dan Boger
(...) isp's proxy (or whatever) is caching the same page, and is bugged? Dan (24 years ago, 23-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: homepage bringing forth weird results —Todd Lehman
(...) The nice thing about this setting in NN (4.61 Linux, at least) is that hitting the Back or Forward button doesn't cause an unwanted refetch (wasteful, as well as a terrible thing if you ever have to leave a form momentarily). But if you (...) (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)
