While I agree that preventing stuff like that would be nice (if possible),
I think it would only take people about 5 seconds to learn how to circumvent
it the wrong way -- say, by putting a dot or an 'x' at the very bottom

probably also circumvent it, assuming that it only checked the last non-
empty line...

I thought about how simple it is to circumvent the test, but
it is always a good start, if you can get people to
recognise that somebody dislikes their behaviour. It might
even make sense to tell people how to circumvent the filter,
_if_ the really want to do what they tried to do.

I think this is the wrong way.  Trying to enforce policy like this with
automation is going to fail in someway.  The obvious is that someone
quotes some *other thread* in his/her message, and then get's it chopped
because the script thinks it's just a "me-too" style post.

I think the repeat offenders should be talked to.  We are a community,
with all the plusses and minuses that entails.  I'd rather take the bad
than miss the good.

On the flip-side, if we are going to enforce via scripts things that irk
people, then I say if an email address doesn't resolve, then they
shouldn't be allowed to post (eg "foo@bar.pleasedontspam.com").

But that's just the quirks of personality that make me who I am.

Ciao!
