When changing the newsgroup within a thread, it’s good practice to make the post in both the old and the new newsgroup, with the FUT going (only) to the new.

This crossposting, apparently, makes it much easier for those using newsreaders to follow the thread.
•It lets the new group see from where the thread has come (which wouldn’t happen if you just set the FUT), and
•It lets the old group see to where the thread has disappeared (which wouldn’t happen if you just posted to the new group).

Thus, your post should have been to both .market.b-s-t and .o-t.d, with the follow up to .o-t.d.

Hope that helps.

This sounds way too complicated for a toy forum. I probably should just refrain from posting in the future to avoid more headaches. That sounds much easier.

It’s not way too complicated, once you get the hang of it. I know I had difficulties early on, but with patient guidance from community leaders, I got to know the ropes. I would encourage you to persevere - it makes for a better LUGNET experience for all, posters and lurkers alike.

And while it is a ‘toy forum’, this doesn’t mean that participants should behave like children.

Cheers

FUT .admin.general
(and note I am posting this to both .off-topic.debate and .admin.general to preserve the flow of the discussion, whilst directing it to a more appropriate group - it’s really not that difficult).

If I haven’t learned all of the posting, cross-posting (1), follow-up posting, re-directing, re-cross-posting, re-cross-directing rules in the almost 8 years (2) that I’ve been a member (3) of this site, then I assume that its hopeless for schmucks like me. I really should just stick to places like this one. I hear that AFOLs don’t enforce as many rules their (4).

God save the queen! (5)

follow up to .o-t.fun (because it seems most appropriate for members (3) and posts like this one)

(1) Why did I just think of cross dressing all of the sudden? (6)
(2) NTNMA of course
(3) ->Insert Beavis & Butthead laugh here<-
(4) Breaking grammar rules on purpose can also be fun
(5) WTH did that come from?
(6) “Walking ‘round in women’s underwear...”

(...) It's never hopeless, Bob. With care, and with guidance from community leaders and others, you can improve not only your following-up posting, re-directing, re-cross-posting, re-cross-directing, but the whole LUGNET experience for all.
