Re: RSS output format (was: Re: Lugnet for beginners)

(...) In other words, back when the Spotlight pages were begun, it was very easy to justify trying that out, because it literally was zero programming to implement it -- it's just one particular application of the plaintext markup format I was (...)   RSS output format (was: Re: Lugnet for beginners)

(...) If the Spotlight data were in an easy-to-munge format, it would be pretty straightforward, ya, but it actually grew up out of a plaintext format. Here's an example of today's page in its raw form that I edit in a browser window edit box: (URL) (...) (25 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) Same functionality. Only you can also put the links bar in your taskbar (It's the Links selection under toolbars). You can also put your address bar in the taskbar. (...) www.perl.com recently had an article on it: (URL) RSS is an XML file served by http which contains channel information; the RSS client (e.g. slashdot.org, my.netscape.com, my.yahoo.com, etc.) slurps it and spews out HTML on the end-user's (...)   Re: Lugnet for beginners

(...) Excellent! I didn't know Internet Exploiter had that. Here's one thing I've been experimenting with in Netscrape Navigator... (2 URLs) close to that level of flexibility does MSIE come? --Todd (25 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Lugnet for beginners

(...) One URL: (URL) and per-user preferences on how to display that page -- kinda like a "My LUGNET" kind of thing. --Todd (25 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Lugnet for beginners

(...) Well, I don't have a bookmark - I have a link at the top of my page, in the 'links' feature that IE has. Very useful... -Shiri (25 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Lugnet for beginners

(...) Funny, I don't have a bookmark to LUGNET :) It's so easy to type, and netscape fills in the rest after I type www.l, which is faster than searching through bookmarks. --Bram (25 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Lugnet for beginners

(...) OK, that's what threw me. When the homepage splits into two different display venues, it'll still have one URL. --Todd (25 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) OK, ya, now I grok what you're saying. Yah, we plan to do just that -- Suzanne has a few nice designs drawn up too, it's just a matter of making it happen.   Re: Lugnet for beginners

Sorry Todd. Let me try again. Supposition: Change the first/topmost page of www.lugnet.com to something that beginners might not be so daunted by, as Kevin Salm suggests, and Tony Priestman and Bram Lambrecht concer with.
