  Shifty soldiers with dodgy shakos...

Ahoy! I've recently experimented with creating shakos out of sculpey. I am not entirely displeased with the results, and I have a few ideas on how they could be better produced. What better way to showcase dodgy shakos, than to put them on Shifty (...) (22 years ago, 20-Mar-03, to lugnet.pirates, lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

(...) Shifty Enlighten. Where the heck do they get these names from? A friend bought me this really frightening clone knock off once, and we couldn't figure out what the heck it was-a boat, a police car, or something in between. Calum (22 years ago, 10-Jul-02, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

  Shifty sets: brown beards!

One of the Shifty sets is a copy of Lego's 1932 Wizard's Cart (URL) so you would think if you saw the box featuring a blue wizard with white beard pulling a cart. However, a Shifty set is always a bit of a lucky dip on colours, so it should have (...) (22 years ago, 25-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

(...) They're pretty awful alright. I've only seen a couple Shifty sets, and it looks like not only do they make mistakes on their boxes, but there's a typo in their name ;) I *thought* these were a 'China-only' brand, and even then were iffy, so (...)   Shifty Blocks

I was able to find just one of the Shifty block sets, in a Dollar store in the small town of Drumheller, AB. I looked in several other such stores in Calgary, but came up empty. The set is an incredibly brazen rip-off of the Royal King LEGO set. The (...) (25 years ago, 30-Aug-99, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

  Re: Shifty set

(...) It's not quite accurate for them to describe all of the sets as "blatant copies" of LEGO sets. Granted, many sets were direct copies, and Shifty certainly copied numerous patent-protected parts, but the Shifty castle set that I bought has no (...) (...) That's true. Of course, the LEGO v MegaBloks suits are somewhat different from LEGO v Shifty/Brick, since LEGO's beef with MegaBloks involves the specific design of the studs-n-tubes interlocking system and the "look" of the 2x4 brick, whereas (...)   "Shifty" rip off brand -- can they get away with this??

I was glancing thru a dollar-shop in lower-mainland British Columbia, Canada, a couple days ago when I saw some small LEGO sets for sale, the kind that usually go for $4 or $5 US. They were being sold for only $1 a piece; they had a set of a couple (...) (25 years ago, 25-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)
