  Re: Brickshelf.com – A Possible Solution

(...) Brickshelf is not in Perl. It is in C. Jennifer Boger www.Peeron.com (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general)

Re: Castle exclusive to Big W & no large castle for .au

(...) I was talking to my local Toyworld staff the other day about it and apparently in this case "exclusive" means exclusive for a few months. The new castle stuff will not be there until September/October and the new Mars Mission stuff is not (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.loc.au)

  Re: Brickshelf.com – A Possible Solution

(...) Ditto. I'm a Perl guy, and I believe the existing Brickshelf code is written in Perl. I'd love to see the code be released as an open source project (unlikely if Kevin intends to continue with maj.com but I can always hope), and would be happy (...)   Re: Problems with Brickshelf?

(...) Another thing about Flickr - you can get the Flickr Uploadr program (for Mac or Windows) to do drag-n-drop uploading of images. It's sooooo much easier than creating a zip file or uploading one file at a time on Brickshelf. Also by getting a (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general)

Re: Is it possible to run lego trains outdoors?

(...) I don't doubt that John will get this done in the near future. After talking with him this weekend, I can see the gears turning and I think this will be an awesome setup when it comes to fruition. John is one more core community member who is (...)   Re: Brickshelf and the AFOL community

(...) Thanks for the information, Eric. It's hard for most people (including myself) to get a grasp on just what resources are needed to run such a site. With respect to targeted ads, Kevin was using Google Adsense, and I believe (from seeing (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Problems with Brickshelf?

I am with you all the way, Jake. I think Flickr is an incredible deal, and one that will probably be around for a long time thanks to it being integrated with Yahoo and with the revenue streams from printing, etc. For $25 a year I can archive my (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Brickshelf + Amazon S3 = Solution?

(...) As I understand it, BitTorrent is an additional option on top of the standard functionality. More info here: (URL) is dealing with a massive amount of files by the minute based on S3. Here's the info: (URL) success stories: (URL) story of (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general)

Re: Brickshelf and the AFOL community

As someone who operates a blog (brickpile.com) about LEGO I agree that there is very little revenue from ads. The problem with ads in a LEGO-related site is that there are only so many times people can click on links to legoshop.com and there just (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general)

"Tim David" <talltim@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:JL6w33.4L7@lugnet.com... (...) I've been using imeem to share photos and videos. Here's a sample video I uploaded: (URL) also financially (and bandwidth) stable because they just inked a (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general)

  Brickshelf and the AFOL community

For those of you who don't know me, I've been in the AFOL community for a long time. I'm also one of the largest hosters of LEGO clubs and other LEGO-related sites. Most of these sites are donated to help the clubs have an internet presence, Some of (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general) !!

  Re: Brickshelf + Amazon S3 = Solution?

(...) Since S3 is talking about using BitTorrent to move data, this would not be a good solution for data that needs to be available on a real-time basis. It sounds like it's more appropriate for an online backup solution. (17 years ago, 15-Jul-07, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Brickshelf.com – A Possible Solution

(...) Replying to my own post: According to a whois lookup, the brickshelf.com domain name expires 20 August 2007. If a new site rises from the old, it would be nice for it to have the same domain name. I don't know if Kevin would be interested in (...) (17 years ago, 15-Jul-07, to lugnet.general)

  Brickshelf + Amazon S3 = Solution?

Just wanted to throw out a potential solution for Kevin - Would Amazon's S3 product be a solution to the bandwidth/storage concerns? (URL) heard both first and secondhand stories about how S3 is a lifesaver and budget saver for data/bandwidth (...) (17 years ago, 15-Jul-07, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Problems with Brickshelf?

(...) You're referring to the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). (There are similar things in many other countries, but as I understand COPPA is one of the most stringent, so it's what many people deal with as a default) Basically (...) I'm a web developer. I can help build such a site. (17 years ago, 15-Jul-07, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Problems with Brickshelf?

(...) I'll tell you, I have absolutely zero problems paying $25/year for the Flickr services. I use it daily now, uploading tons of RAW photos at full quality. Plus you get some additional features that are pretty handy. I've been posting the baby (...) (17 years ago, 15-Jul-07, to lugnet.general)
