Re: FLL not allowing NQC; Mindscript is allowed

Hell, let's just switch over to a meritocracy. We can imprison the inept and get it all over with. Who gets to decide whom has merit? In no way does LEGO or FIRST try to level the playing field by constraining anyone's abilities. They constrain the (...) (21 years ago, 10-Mar-05, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: suggestions on a mixture of 2nd to 5th graders

One activity I've used w/a huge age range is "A chair for Mr. Bear" (URL) being listed as a k-2 activity, I've used it on pre-K through college level. The challenge is deceptively simple--build a chair that can survive a fall from knee height. The (...) (21 years ago, 10-Mar-05, to lugnet.robotics.edu)

Re: FLL not allowing NQC; Mindscript is allowed

(...) But it won't necessarily get perceived that way... it would be perceived that NQC is a tool for advanced users, and that it may offer advantages that the regular LEGO tools don't. Available for zero financial cost doesn't necessarily mean (...) (21 years ago, 10-Mar-05, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Complete agreement. But it is unfortunately not the case. (...) Actually, they would only need to move the curser over any symbols they were unfamiliar with. The contextual help will spell it out for them. (...) Actually yes. And it is not (...) (21 years ago, 10-Mar-05, to lugnet.robotics, FTX)

Re: suggestions on a mixture of 2nd to 5th graders

(...) Hi Elizabeth, As a favor to a community services manager I took on a class of 1st graders last year (usually I teach 3rd - 8th graders). It was a bit like hearding cats but I learned a few things from the experience. They're a bit young at (...) (21 years ago, 10-Mar-05, to lugnet.robotics.edu)

Re: FLL not allowing NQC; Mindscript is allowed

(...) You can't possibly defend that position. ANYONE can have NQC for zero cost! It's an OpenSource project. Just download it from the NQC web site or use the brickcc tool from any web browser! You can even find links to it from the official Lego (...) (21 years ago, 10-Mar-05, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: And now, for another theme bastardization : : Track MOW Ship

(...) Thanks for the kind words, Chris! I don't think un-bastardizing would be a good idea since the novelty of the model IS the fact that it is a combo of train and space. But I may do a stand-alone MOW later! Thanks again! Legoswami (21 years ago, 10-Mar-05, to lugnet.space, lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Group MOC Study - Pirate Gunboat

(...) JP you really captured the spirit of the pic, in fact I think your version looks better than the source material. The shape of the hull is just flat out cool. -keith p.s. put it on the sidebar Lenny, you commy-pinko bastard! (21 years ago, 10-Mar-05, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) .... (...) I agree... unfortunately, there's not a heck of a lot anyone can do about it. The easiest solution is to simply not compete with so dramatically less competent people who don't understand that while you may use different tools, the (...)   Re: FLL not allowing NQC; Mindscript is allowed

(...) Nonsense. It's not the actual *code* that you need to understand - it's the ALGORITHM. Yeah - to the totally uninitiated, a bunch of boxes with an arrow pointing backwards tells you there is a loop - and maybe a 'for ( x = 0 ; x < 10 ; x++ )' (...)   Re: FLL not allowing NQC; Mindscript is allowed

(...) OK - so there are two horrible implications in what you say: 1) People who have more of a mechanical background are allowed to have a huge advantage - but people who have more of a software background have to be constrained to prevent them (...) (21 years ago, 10-Mar-05, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: CEO-Letter // The answer

(...) Ben, I don't think the 1x2x2 classic style window will be retired any time soon. The reason is the same reason that it is still in production.... a large number of the Legoland Parks Miniland buildings have the 1x2x2 windows in them. I believe (...)   Re: CEO-Letter // The answer

(...) I must appologize for my poor choice of words. Obviously children are LEGO's core market. That being said, to ingore even 5% of your market is a pretty serious oversight. Do you really think that this colour change improved LEGO sales? Do you (...) (21 years ago, 10-Mar-05, to lugnet.color)

  Re: CEO-Letter // The answer

(snip) (...) Ok, it's a known fact that AFOL's make up from 1-5% in sales for TLG. How does 5% translate to a "core group of consumers"? Now, if you managed to get 40%, that would be a stronger point for debate... Scott (21 years ago, 9-Mar-05, to lugnet.color)

  Re: CEO-Letter // The answer

(...) Assumptions. How are you equating the owners to TLG? Those are separate statements that don't have commonality. Yes, TLG is a private company, but the owner of the company isn't the CEO. You "doubt a switchback would drive TLG out of (...) (21 years ago, 9-Mar-05, to lugnet.color)
