That makes me *SICK*.

I agree... unfortunately, there's not a heck of a lot anyone can do
about it.  The easiest solution is to simply not compete with so
dramatically less competent people who don't understand that while you
may use different tools, the real competitive advantage you might have
is actually intrinsic to yourself.

The contest should be left open - if a clever mechanical solution is the
way to win - so be it - if a robot can employ cunning software to get an
advantage then bring it on.  Understanding which approach works best and
how to compromise between them is where practical robotics is at.

If every kid in the contest, regardless of their background, has a
perception that nobody else has access to any tools they don't, nobody
can go and cry "foul" later when the best and brightest happens to win.
That's why NQC probably shouldn't be allowed (until such time as LEGO
themselves are an official and recognized source through which copies of
NQC can be obtained).

(...) You can't possibly defend that position. ANYONE can have NQC for zero cost! It's an OpenSource project. Just download it from the NQC web site or use the brickcc tool from any web browser! You can even find links to it from the official Lego (...) (20 years ago, 10-Mar-05, to lugnet.robotics)
