I think Lego is just trying to cut corners and save money. They are aimed at the younger audience, and all they do is get their parents to buy the latest hyped up theme. I think most of this process is faulted by two things: 1) A lot of people take way too long to turn the boxes (recieve and send to the next person) Most boxes have a current hop count of 5 to 10. I just saw the display at MOSI. I have to agree that it was better than I had anticipated. The Vision Command System that they had on display was very, very cool.
