Hi
Just visited the Lego website. The new Santa Fe cars can now be preordered.
Seems like they will be available in Europe before the US. In Denmark, 20
and 31 august. In the US, 6 september and 8 october. whoohoo.

Sante Fe Cars Set I
http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?prod_id=10025
Sante Fe Cars Set II
http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?prod_id=10022
Now I'm a little confused. I'm looking at the Fallen Flags site for
reference:
http://www.midwestnpioneer.org/timetable/fallenflags/superchief.html
The descriptions at shop.lego.com don't seem to match the cars correctly.
For example, 10022 SF Cars II makes three cars (and has the clear macaroni
bricks!). Lego.com describes them as sleeping, mail & baggage. But comparing
them to the Fallen Flags site, these cars look like observation, dining and
sleeping.
10025 SF Cars I is described by Lego.com as dining and observation. Again
comparing them with Fallen Flags, they look like baggage and mail to me.
And the online descriptions don't match the descriptions from the new
catalog either -
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=212603
Are the descriptions wrong on Lego.com or am I missing something? My
knowledge of real railroad machinery and terms is zero, so I might be
totally off base.
(When does the new train catalog get published?)

Well I think something is definitely wrong. Whether it is the website or the
catalog, I don't know, since I don't know much about trains either. I get
the pictures on the website as follows (compared to catalog):
10022 Observation/mail/sleeping car
10025 Dining/bagage car
But perhaps someone knows better?

The descriptions of the Santa Fe Cars have just been improved, and also
the've been moved from the incorrect map "Trains > Locomotive" to "Trains >
Rail cars". But the "Rail Cars" overview page hasn't been updated yet, so
for the moment you won't be able to find the cars navigating through the menu's.
However, the improved item pages of the cars do show up if you enter their
set number 10025 or 10022 in the "ITEM NUMBER SEARCH" box at the botom of
the yellow menu (lower-left corner)
With friendly greetings, M. Moolhuysen.

Yikes! We actually made a mistake when we initially posted the cars. We are
working on a fix and the cars should be live again shortly, if they aren't
already!

Umm, didn't you mean to order 3 of 10022, and 2 of 10025? (Maybe that's just
what you did, though.)

Hello Jake,
I just wanted to ask about pricing of the Santa Fe coaches:
I have heard about a 5-waggons-kit for a discount price of 148$. Is that true
and what is the number to order?
For Germany that kit has already been announced for 179 Eur (obviously the
price we pay for the absence of Mega-Bloks in Europe, since 1Eur = 1$)
But there is no number for the kit available in the German part of S@H also.
If I now pre-order my five cars: will they cost me the 200 bucks or do I get
the discount price of 179 Eur? (Same for US-Folks: will the first buyers now
have to pay 5x35$=175$ instead of 148$ when the discount will have been
announced?)
Kind Regards,
Ben

To be fair, remember that EU prices will include VAT.
Whereas there is no sales tax added to mail order products in the US, other
than in the state they are shipped from (or something to that effect)
As such, if you add VAT to the US price it comes out around the same

Perhaps there are little or no MEGA BLOKS in Germany, but we do have them in
Belgium. And they are cheaper than Lego too! But to be honest, i don't like
them that much, even i own some, just for a check if they fit good as well
as mechanical as in color. But this differs too. So, no more MEGA BLOKS for
me, but my kids are asking some of there models (PRO BUILDER serie).

Hi Lawrence,
of course you are right. But still there is the difference between the Santa
Fe (40$ in the US and 40 Eur in Germany) and the coaches (35$ but 40 Eur). The
engine has more parts and a probably somewhat better part collection. In my
eyes the coaches are too expensive in relation to the engine.
And second thing I do not understand:
5 coaches in the US are (if 'rumors' are true) 148 against 175$ =>18% discount
5 coaches in Germany will be 179 Eur against 200 Eur =>18% discount => 12%
discount.
In general Germany has often had quite reasonable prices (especially in
comparison to the UK), so I will not claim any more about too high costs for
these sets. But a complete Santa Fe is not a cheap hobby. For A-B-A units you
need 4 Sets 10020 = 160 Eur
Then 5 sets of waggons = 179 Eur
2 further waggon sets for moc waggons (you need 'normal' passenger cars, dont
you?) = 80 Eur
2 motors = 70 Eur
2 light set = 18 (?)Eur
Sum: 507 Eur for 1 train! That is for sure an AFOLs train only.
Kind Regards,
Ben
(P.s.: I would definitely never buy Mega Bloks, but I would like to have them
in the shops as an argument against the Lego prices...)

What I want to know is why do both the "kits" cost the same but one has almost
100 more pieces?

Just noticed that shipment date for 10022 has been changed for Europe. It is
now 13 september, rather than 31 august.

I was hoping there would be a Christmas special of the Santa Fe loco + motor
+ two of the passenger Santa Fe cars + one Santa Fe baggage car.
Where did you hear about the 5 car offer ?

It's in the Train Catalog. I've seen it. 5 for $148 or 2 for $65.
