| | | | | Introducing my latest biped, Gyro. Its name comes from its
mechanism, which mimics the effect of a gyro stabilization
system and keeps the upper torso parallel to the ground
while the rest of the walker leans side to side, keeping the
center of gravity over the foot that is currently on the
ground. Its walking mechanism is quite compact and I've
clocked it at approximately 9 feet per minute. I'm working on
getting a video posted, as you really need to see the
mechanism in motion to appreciate it.
Here's the link to the page on Brickshelf:

Looks really good! Well done.
I anticipate that video now .)

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. On the subject of
speed, you might want to check out my X5 biped.

It's about three times as fast as Gyro, although
it lacks the side to side stabilizing mechanism.

I didn't really think about that, but I guess Gyro
does look a bit like some of the honda prototypes.
I have more ideas for mechanisms, and I think that
a walker with a design similar to Asimo is possible,
but a Lego walker with all of Asimo's abilities would
be really tricky.

I had the same basic idea for a name, just rearranged a bit.
ASILMO, or Advanced Step In Lego Mobility.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I've posted a short video file of Gyro on Brickshelf.
You can find it on the Gyro page here:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=61336
The quality isn't quite what I'm going for, but the
digital camera I'm currently using isn't the best.
Anyway, I hope you like it.

"This content-type has been temporarily disabled. Please try again later."
So I'll just try again later...

I think that possibly brickshelf doesn't support movies anymore.

Actually, Tobbe had it right. The thing is that there are so many movies
hosted on BrickShelf that they are a serious drain on the resources. So,
Kevin decided to only enable movie downloads when the bandwidth consumption
is low, like late at night or in the middle of the afternoon. If you try to
download them any other time, you get a 64KB text file presumably saying
exactly what Tobbe quoted.
So they're still there, they are just hidden at some times.

I hope that isn't the case, but if so, it's disappointing.
There would probably be technical reasons for it, though.
If that is the case, I guess a lot of people will need to
find a new web host for their videos.

According to Brendan (the guy behind The Bricktestament) Kevin (the guy behind
Brickshelf) has disabled parts of his images from time to time since there is a
bandwith problem with Brickshelf. We can't complain since it's a free service
but it would be a shame if Brickshelf has gotten too popular and thus
overloaded. Hopefully Kevin will find a solution. There must be some serious
costs to have that amount of data going (in) and out...
Kudos to Kevin.
