Sorry to disagree: in terms of playability, the SES definitely is the better ship - the more when your ships are equipped with
shooting cannons. While it is quite difficult to shoot cannonballs due to the very limited space on board of the BSB, the rotating
cannons on board of the SES are very convenient for gunners! The missing planks on the sides give more space for  your hands, and
the rotating cannons allow a better manouverability. I guess most changes that happened to the SES have been undertaken to enable a
better shooting of the cannons, a fact that may be overlooked easily in the U.S. where this feature is generally not available.
Also, the capstan and the sophisticated steering mechanism of the SES are additional features the BSB is lacking.

From a playability standpoint, definitely the SES is better, but as more
of a modeler or wargamer, those "playability" features don't add much.
The BSB is easily modified to have a 4 gun broadside (check out my RSB).
The capstan on the SES is a nice idea, but it's poorly placed (it
shouldn't be tucked under a rail). From a gaming perspective, the loss
of deck space on the SES is bad.

Tom commented that one thing he didn't like was the green gun port
covers. I actually kind of like them, but they do clash a bit with the
color scheme (SES has green, white, blue, AND yellow as trim colors). I
have thought about using the green gunpoint covers on my RSB (which has
green as it's 2nd trim color - I would also like to reduce the amount of
white, but that is waiting for a 1x2x3 inverse extreme slope to appear
in dark grey - I will be changing the spars over to red soon, and may
change the poop deck rails over to dark grey [I've acquired a bit more
dark grey since I built the RSB]).

Some folks don't like the rear mast on the SES (myself included), but it
actually isn't as non-historically accurate as one might assume.

As I said before though, in my mind the SES is very close to the BSB,
unfortunately, the action features it introduced set the path for the
far worse 3rd generation of ships (6250, 6280, and 6289).
