Didn’t you guys keep back-ups?

I gotta say I’m pretty upset by this news - it’s as shocking as it is unexpected. I feel like I’ve lost a dear friend.

I’m thankful for those of you that made the forum a pleasure for us to run, we couldn’t have had a better membership. Also, I’m thankful for those of you that fought me all the way along for that’s what made the place what it was. It was a fun ride, and we can proudly (as proud as one can be of JLUG) go out on a high, with approx 24000 posts under our belt and a few hundred members......

So it was fun, but not fun enough to start again from scratch.

From my perspective, I think it was enough fun, but I expect I wasn’t on the receiving end of a lot of work behind the scenes like you guys were.

Thanks to everyone for the support of our decision, may I wish you good luck in finding a new sandbox.

The only way that’s gonna happen is if I make it myself, but unfortunately I have neither the technical know-how nor the time to devote to such an enterprise.

Hey this place looks nice (Lugnet)... looks like most of you never left here anyway.

It’s not the same.

So, thanks for a fun time Janey and Ross. I think tonight I’ll be internalising things in 375ml measures and moving on.

Allister.

Doesn’t seem fair, does it? It was one of the good ones.

I feel much the same way. I was contemplating setting up a website called save.JLUG.com, to provide a forum in which fans of JLUG could work to save JLUG. We could have provided anecdotes, aired carefully thought out arguments, made vague threats, and even written songs to support the reinstatement of JLUG.

But then I realised that if I had the expertise to set that up, I could probably just set up JLUG2 and be done with it.

Hmmm... I wonder if Janey and Ross contemplated finding some Albanians to take JLUG over?

We could form a committee to discuss it, and then all resign in a fit of petulance. That’d be fun.

They could run the server from a handcranked laptop in Africa. It’d probably be more reliable than those shonky Northstar servers.

Yeah, like it’s so hard. http://www.triple-bypass.net/jlug2/index.php

This is just a sample, and I’ve only put 15 minutes work into it.

Goodonya Leigh. Who knows what you could achieve in an hour. At this rate, we’ll have ITC by the end of the week.

Nice work, CM Worker! (Or should I say CL Worker?)

Hopefully, my prompt registering will result in a low member number (not than numbers mean anything).

Spotlighted. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for registering and all, guys. However, this is just a sample, and I’m not sure I’m the one to be administering or hosting a forum. I really just wanted to prove to Allister how quick and easy it was to set up a forum. Perhaps more discussion is warranted.

No. No discussion. Why not register us, and see how it goes? Will it collapse in a mountain of anticommunitarian trolling? Will you collapse under the admin load? I suspect neither. But carpe diem and all that. You have built it, they are coming.

But why not give it a go, just to see? Go on.

Besides, I am rather keen on getting a low member number.

My reference to meant collapsing under the admin load is not meant to be insulting toward CL Ross and Mistress Janey. They did do a lot of work behind the scenes.

In fact, some of the things they delivered were the most wizard that I’ve seen in any online LEGO forum. But perhaps some of the things like s’lighting, the LPV and MOT galleries, jugstars, the automatic deacrynoming of CTOPs, the cute smilies and so on were a bit too much of an overhead. Wherever did they get the ideas for such features?

So, kudos to CL Ross and Mistress Janey for what they achieved.

Cheers

Setting up is one thing. Maintaining and administering? ...

Well, you’ll see.

I’d be satisfied with chat. I’ll create a #jlug IRC channel on espernet but I seem to remember some of you have troubles getting in during work hours.

I seem to be able to penetrate through to the one they use on mechahub, but irc, iirc, is a no-go area for me. :(

If you can get through to the mechahub one you can get through to #jlug. Come in and I’ll tell you how.

WOW,

CL worker, you ARE a RATTC!

the list of people who have registered is VERY impressive. Kudo’s to you, and your new team.

as a side note, and I am NOT a lawyer, but i think you might need permission from CL janey, and/or CL ross to use the JLUG moniker.

I’m sure you could try CTOP - or, ummm, SANDBOX.

Chris with all PROOF gone, i can now say i was JLUG member # 2
